Assistant Accountant
INDUSTRY: RETAIL
LOCATION: ZANZIBAR
HR World Ltd, on behalf of our client, is looking for a detail-oriented and analytical Assistant Accountant who will be responsible for supporting day-to-day accounting operations and ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
- Maintain accurate records of invoices, receipts, payments, and journal entries.
- Perform bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Monitor cash flow and support effective treasury management.
- Support payroll processing and verification of employee expense claims.
- Assist in budgeting and forecasting processes through data compilation and variance analysis.
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations and assist in preparation of statutory returns.
- Liaise with external auditors and provide required financial documentation.
- Maintain organized and secure filing systems for financial records.
- Manage petty cash transactions and ensure proper documentation and reconciliation of daily expenses.
- Provide general administrative support to the finance department as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 1–2 years of experience in accounting or finance (internship experience acceptable).
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting standards.
- Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, or similar systems.
- Strong working knowledge of MS Office applications, particularly Excel.
- High attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
