POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Bulyanhulu Gold Mine is seeking to recruit Banksman to join our team. The successful candidate for this position is expected to align to the Barrick DNA and drive a change within his team and the business and to ensure activities in the Shaft are effectively planned and undertaken in a safe and cost effective manner to achieve targets in accordance to BGML Mining Safety Standards, Policies and Procedures.

Reporting to: Shaft Supervisor

Work Schedule: 7 Days On / 7 Days Night / 7 Days Off

Duration: Permanent

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Ensure safe work practices by attending compulsory safety courses and meetings
• Comply with Occupational Health and Environmental Policies, as well as other policies, procedures and guidelines
• To perform cages prestart check-up
• Loading and Offloading employees to and from underground
• monitoring cascade system
• Monitoring of shaft pumps
• Monitoring of blasting boxes
• To assist during breakdowns of the cage skips and pipes
• To carry out the transportation of explosive in the cage
• Helping on secondary blasting
• To ensure and maintain leaning of cascade dams
• loading and offloading material into and from a shaft conveyance
• Prepare a conveyance for shaft examination and repairs
• Assisting during shaft inspections 
• Maintaining dams’ level and report on any deviation
• Link communication of shaft and other users
• Monitoring head gear activities
• Perform all other Tasks assigned by Supervisor.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:                                                              

• Ordinary secondary education
• Bank/ on setter certificate
• Valid driving license

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in underground Mining.
• Experience in shaft operations

SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

• Knowledge in the operating shaft
• Mine Health & Safety awareness
• Excellent communication in English, both writing and verbal
• Hazard identification and Risk assessment
