CHILD SAFEGUARDING:

 

Level 3: √ the post holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.

 

ROLE PURPOSE:  

The Child Protection and Child Rights Governance Coordinator is responsible for the implementation of the Child Protection and Child Right’s Governance programme in Zanzibar under the direction of the Zanzibar Representative and, in coordination with the Zanzibar Representative, to represent and advocate for Save the Children’s work and organizational priorities with a wide range of external stakeholders including government representatives, civil society, children and youth, parents, technical professionals within the field of Law, Education, and Health, academia, donors, and UN agencies operating in Zanzibar.

SCOPE OF ROLE:

Save the Children has been operational in Tanzania since 1986 providing support to children through developmental and humanitarian relief programmes delivered in support of Government of Tanzania priorities and policies both directly and through local partners.  Current programming focuses on child protection, child rights governance, education, nutrition, HIV/TB and emergency response. In 2012, as part of a global reorganization process, Save the Children combined programmes of SCUK, SCUS, SC Sweden to create a single operation in Tanzania.  We currently have an operational presence in Dodoma, Shinyanga, Zanzibar, Songwe, Iringa, Rukwa, Morogoro and Kigoma as well as Dar es Salaam and we also work through partners in other parts of the country. We employ nearly 100 staff and have an annual operating budget of approximately $15 million.

 

Reports to: Zanzibar Representative on daily basis and technically to Sida Core Senior Programme Manager

 

Dimensions: Maintains strong linkages with the Technical Specialists for Child Protection and Child Rights Governance, the Sida Core Senior Programme Manager, and the MEAL Specialist amongst others in the Programme Development and Quality team.

 

Staff directly reporting to this post: Two Senior CP Programme Officers, One CRG Programme Officer
