ROLE PURPOSE: TheDeputy Director of Programme Implementation (DDPI) / Emergency Team leader (ETL) Jointly oversees all programme implementation and operational support to our programme activities.  The DDPI/ETL will also work to reduce the risks posed to the programs, personnel and assets of to Save the Children Tanzania as the Safety and Security Focal Point. This is a senior level role contributing to the oversight of 4 Dar es Salaam projects, our emergency response programme in Kigoma Region, and the Emergency preparedness to deploy elsewhere.

As a member of the ESMT the DDPI/ETL helps create a positive, inclusive, proactive and accountable working environment within the country office.

SCOPE OF ROLE:

Save the Children has been operational in Tanzania since 1986 providing support to children through developmental and humanitarian relief programmes delivered in support of Government of Tanzania priorities and policies both directly and through local partners.  Current programming focuses on child protection, child rights governance, education, nutrition, HIV/TB and emergency response. In 2012, as part of a global reorganization process, Save the Children combined programmes of SCUK, SCUS, SC Sweden to create a single operation in Tanzania.  We currently have an operational presence in Shinyanga, Mbozi, Zanzibar, Songwe, Kigoma and with Dodoma/Singida, we will starting up in April to 10 new Regions as the SR for Global Fund. We also work through partners in other parts of the country. We employ nearly 100 staff and have an annual operating budget of approximately $14.5 million.

This is a challenging senior role in a changing operational context as the country programme continues to grow its overall portfolio, expands its geographic footprint, and seeks to strengthen operational reliability safety and effectiveness of its work, including through stronger partnerships with government and civil society actors. It requires a principled, dedicated, experienced and highly motivated individual who can help to drive forward our programme and our ambitions. The role will build on and embed an organizational culture utilizing a capacity building approach to strengthen established systems, policies and procedures, emphasizing an empowering strong project management, and ensuring staff understanding and compliance meets organizational quality standards.
