Development Officer Job Description
ISM is the oldest school in Africa to offer the prestigious International Baccalaureate (IB) and is based in Moshi and Arusha in Tanzania. The school is now on a journey to become a United World College (UWC), the 2nd in Africa, and in doing so increase its scholarship provision.
Fundraising Duties
- To work with both the Director and the Senior Leadership Team to set up and maintain a non-income stream to support the school’s fundraising strategy
- To research and follow up new and existing fundraising leads to gain scholarship support
- To write proposals and communication material (print and video) for fundraising purposes
- Maintain the charitable bank account platform and work with the UK Trustees to ensure timely tax returns and reports to the school for scholarship provision
- Liaise with UWC International Office to manage grants and the UWC process
- Oversee the UWC short courses which run over the summer, provide on the ground support to the coordinators
Alumni Duties
- To maintain the alumni online platform
- Set up and support alumni events worldwide; 50th anniversary celebrations summer 2019 in Moshi
- Engage more alumni by increasing the number of active participants on the online platform and increasing regular donors for the scholarship fund
- Follow up with scholarship students and manage the database. Produce communications and stories for updates to donors and statistics
Social Media and School PR Management
- Write the social media strategy for the next school year to help increase the school’s paying students and donors for scholarships
- Manage all the school’s social media platforms
- Collect interest stories from day to day school activities to be used for school communication channels
- Work on annual Summit magazine; finding sponsors and writing articles
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, International Relations, Business Management or related fields or 3 years’ experience in a similar role
- Familiarity with social media platforms and analytics
- Proficient on computers; Microsoft Office, Google Mail
- Experience in writing grants, communication materials and networking
- Confident managing big donors and corporations
- Have experience in organising large events and/or courses; logistics, budgeting, content
- Have the legal right to work in Tanzania
