Job description

EADD II is an ambitious five-year program designed to transform the lives of 136,000 dairy farming families through a competitive and inclusive dairy value chain in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania (35,000 dairy farming families). Rungwe District has a high potential for dairy which can be developed to elevate farmers’ incomes and support livelihoods. The district has about 21,000 dairy farm families, which produce a total of over 200,000 liters of milk per day.

Function:

The Assistant Business Development Advisor (ABDA) will support in providing a timely and effective implementation of project activities and achievement of the business development goal of the project. ABDA will provide technical support and form Dairy Interest Groups to assist farmers and their groups with farm record keeping; basic and simplified farm economics; creating business insights among farmers and DIGs; facilitate farmers’ access to markets through well-established milk collection routes, aggregation points/centers; enhancing milk quality levels. The Advisor will generally be responsible for enhancing business development at the farm, DIG and PO level and from time to time will explore business opportunities and coach DIGs, Project Management Committees (PMCs) and PO leadership to exploit and foster milk and other businesses around the hub.

The ABDA will work directly with the Senior Business Development Advisor (SBDA), Senior Production, and Social Capital Development teams for the consistent delivery of quality services. S/he will also work with relevant project partners such Government Extension workers (especially Dairy, Cooperative, and Business departments), PO staff and other key value chain actors such as milk processors.

Essential Character Traits:

For the successful execution of the job duties, the Advisor should be proactive, able to generate innovative solutions, a team player who is passionate about community empowerment (working supportively with the project team, PO and farmer communities) and have good interpersonal skills (both written and oral).
