Founded in 1956, The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a humanitarian, non-governmental, non-profit organization providing direct assistance to conflict-affected populations – refugees, internally displaced people (IDPs) and host communities – in more than 40 countries around the world. DRC has been implementing emergency response projects in Tanzania since the onset of the Burundi refugee crisis in 2015 in three refugee camps in the Kigoma Region at the border with Burundi. DRC’s integrated projects for refugees, asylum seekers and host communities comprise sectors such as Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM), Community Based Protection, Legal, GBV (Gender based violence), Child Protection, People with special needs, and Livelihoods.

The overall purpose of the role:

The Economic Recovery Coordinator, under the management and supervision of the Economic Recovery Manager, will be responsible for providing technical and programmatic support for DRC Economic Recovery sectors including Livelihood, Energy, and environmental activities in the DRC areas of operations in Tanzania. The role will include harmonization of tools, implementation of strategy, and training to ensure DRC has a consistent and clear approach to livelihood/energy and environment across all sites. The Economic Recovery Coordinator will work closely with the Economic Recovery Manager in the finalization and rollout of the livelihood/energy and environment-related strategies as well as contributing to a positive working environment with all key stakeholders.

Geographic scope: Area (Nyarugusu, Nduta and Kibondo, Kasulu Host communities:

This role has an area focus and ensures compliance with DRC procedures and guidelines within the country. Overall responsibility includes quality and timely management of livelihood /energy and environment projects in villages and refugee camps across the Kigoma region, as well as supervising livelihood/energy and environment sector project teams, representation at relevant clusters and Working Groups, and coordination with implementing partners. The role contributes to the development of livelihood/energy and environment strategies, which are translated into action plans and day-to-day tasks. The role provides support and/or technical guidance to country operations while overseeing country activities. This role is based in Nduta/Nyarugusu and supports the host communities respectively.
