Overview

The Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) is a quasi-independent Government body responsible for regulating the Communications and Broadcasting sectors in Tanzania. It was established under the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Act No.12 of 2003 to regulate the electronic communications, and Postal services, and management of the national frequency spectrum in the United Republic of Tanzania. The Authority became operational on 1st November 2003 and effectively took over the functions of the now-defunct Tanzania Communications Commission (TCC) and Tanzania Broadcasting Commission (TBC) respectively.

For effective implementation of its duties and responsibilities the Authority hereby invites applications from suitably qualified Tanzanians to fill the following vacancies in its establishment.

Job Position: Economist II (Three Positions)

Duties and Responsibilities

• Participates in the evaluation of economic impact of the Authority regulatory policies in the communications sector;
• Participates in analysing tariffs, rates, commissions and other charges for the communication services;
• Contributes to undertake economic analysis of projects and programmes submitted by postal and telecommunications operators;
• Assists in the coordination of designing, formulation, and review of the Strategic and Medium Term Plans;
• Assists in Designs and Formulation of Authority’s Annual Plan and Budget;
• Monitors communications regulatory, market, economic, technological and financial trends and provide early warning reports on potential emerging threats;
• Develops the combined assurance plan for the Authority;
• Perform any other related duties as may be assigned by the supervisor from time to time.

Qualifications and Experience

A holder of Bachelor Degree in Economics, Engineering Economics, Statistics or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution. Previous experience in the regulation sector will be added advantage.

• A person with good communication skills, orally articulate, good written communication skills, a good writer, good analyzer and a good listener;
• Ability to draw reasonable, logical conclusions or assumptions from limited information;
• Display a great deal of creativity in problem-solving and pays attention to details;
• Ability to do Research.
