About Innovations for Poverty Action:

Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA) is an international non-profit research organization dedicated to discovering and promoting effective solutions to global poverty problems. IPA works in partnership with development partners and academic researchers to create and evaluate approaches potential solutions to poverty problems using randomized evaluations in the fields of health, education, microfinance, governance, and agriculture. We also mobilize and support these decision makers to use these solutions to build better programs and policies at scale.

About the Project: Financing the In-Between Sector: Designing and Evaluating Targeted Lending in Tanzania is a project designed to evaluate the potential for targeting loan products to high-potential micro and small enterprises. Roughly 250 firms in Arusha, Kilimanjaro, Mbeya and Singida regions who have demonstrated the ability to repay small loans will be surveyed and then offered a chance to apply for an improved loan product from one of Tanzania’s leading commercial banks. The purpose of the data collection is to identify characteristics associated with credit demand, loan approvals and loan repayment and will consist of a detailed survey on business performance, management practices, and growth aspirations. The manager will lead a team of 12 field officers during the data collection.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Oversee a team of 12 enumerators and ensure that all data collection protocols are followed
• Assist the Research Associate in the development of a training manual and training of enumerators
• Assisting in project-related procurement and budget management
• Report progress and challenges regularly to Research Associate
• Familiarization with the missions of IPA
• Ensure data integrity is maintained at all times and minimize errors in recording data
• Punctuality: both to determined daily schedule, meetings with local leaders, and any other meetings
• Maintain team cohesion and respect among team members
• Accurate daily reporting and tracking for oneself and within assigned team
• Demonstrate integrity and understanding during interaction with community members/leaders and partner organization staff
• Maintaining security and quality of project assets and materials

QUALIFICATIONS

• A Bachelor’s Degree, college diploma, certificate of business, or equivalent experience in business or community development
• Excellent verbal communication skills in both English and Kiswahili
• Experience in meetings with government officials
• Well organized, detail-oriented, and excellent listening skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Experience managing surveys a major plus.
