The Jane Goodall Institute (JGI) is a global community conservation organization that advances the vision and work of Dr. Jane Goodall by conversing chimpanzees and inspiring communities to conserve the natural world we all share, we improve the lives of people, animals, and the environment, we strongly believe everything is connected and everyone can make a difference. The Jane Goodall Institute Tanzania (JGI-TZ) was founded in 1977 by Dr. Jane Goodall, The JGI Tanzania with its partners makes a difference through community-centered conservation and the innovative use of science and technology, we work closely with local communities in Tanzania, inspiring hope through a collective power of individual action. Majority of young people in schools and communities are acquiring the knowledge and skills to become compassionate conservation leaders in their own environment through the Roots & Shoots program.

The Jane Goodall Institute Tanzania (JGI-TZ) is a reputable and rapidly expanding non-governmental organization committed to wildlife research, conservation, socio-economic development, and environmental education. JGI Tanzania performs its activities through its four Programs, these are Gombe-Masito-Ugalla (GMU) Program for Community-Centered Ecosystem Conservation, The Gombe Stream Research Centre (GSRC) Program for Wildlife Research and Roots & Shoots (R&S) program for Youths Environmental Education. 
JGI Tanzania is currently seeking to recruit suitably qualified and competent Tanzanians to fill the following vacant position: 

Job Position: Geodatabase Specialist 
Work Station: Kigoma Municipality 
Reporting Line: Deputy Program Director 

Responsibilities

Main responsibilities will include, but not limited to: 

• - Plan database upgrades by maintaining, evaluating, and improving a transaction processing model.
• - Assess database performance by developing a protocol for measurement of results and identification of problem areas.
• - Support database performance by monitoring database performance; evaluating and resolving processing and programming problems; designing database management tools; answering user questions.
• - Secure database by preparing access and control policies and procedures; implementing disaster recovery procedures.
• - Support application design by contributing expertise to applications, operations, and technical support teams.
• - Coordinate and manage database activities to support application development projects.
• - Provide functional and technical support to ensure the performance, operation, and stability of database systems.
• - Manage data exporting and importing across database systems.
• - Provide database connectivity and access support throughout the Program members.
• - Prepare documentation of all database procedures and guidelines.
• - Provide high-level support to users on a daily basis.
• - Respond to database related queries and issues in a timely fashion.
• - Monitor database activities on a daily basis to ensure the reliability and security of databases.
• - Ensure that the database is properly tested and bugs are fixed appropriately.
• - Assist in optimizing database for operational and performance efficiency.
• - Assist in database management, maintenance, and troubleshooting activities.
• - Assist in database enhancements and modifications as per customer requests.
• - Prepare database project status reports to project manager.
• - Prepare database reports for managers as needed. 

Minimum Job Qualifications and other Requirements: 

• - Undergraduate degree in computer science, computer engineering, management information systems, or a related field, o At least 5 years working experience in the same field.
• - Previous knowledge and experience in working with conservation and sustainable natural resources management project is desirable, o Experience working in rural and remote areas of Tanzania.
• - Ability to work under pressure, tight deadlines and less supervision, self-motivated person, team player, reporting and presentation skills, o Good Communication skills; fluent in Swahili and English, both verbal and written.
