Org. Setting and Reporting

This position is located in the Programme Office in Tanzania (POTZA) of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) with duty station in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, which operates under the Regional Office for Eastern Africa (ROEA) based in Nairobi, Kenya. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Representative, ROEA and the overall substantive guidance of the Senior Law Enforcement Expert, Drug Control and Crime Prevention heading the Container Control Programme (CCP). The focus of the UNODC Container Control Programme is to assist law enforcement agencies to identify and inspect high-risk containers.

Competencies

Education

An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in criminal justice, criminology, law, political science, management or other related fields. A first-level university degree in the aforementioned fields in combination with two (2) additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Formal qualifications or certifications from a recognized national or international customs authority, police academy or military service-training institution (supplemented by specialization in criminal justice, crime prevention or law enforcement) in combination with four (4) additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the first level university degree

 

Work Experience

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another United Nations official language is an advantage.
