Overhead Crane Operator

Job Purpose:

The successful candidate will be responsible for operating, maintenance and repairing overhead crane, ensuring good and safe maintenance practices at all the time while working with the overhead crane.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for ensuring off-load cane bundles and proper feeding to ensure mill is fed without gaps.
• Ensure the overhead crane is operating within rated capacity and all protection are in operation before operating the machine, any deviation must be reported to maintenance team and to his line manager.
• Inspecting the Machine when up the ladder into the driving cabin of the crane, looseness on foundation bolts, Railways, and report deviations to avoid Loads falling from height.
• Inspection for abnormal condition i.e., abnormal sound, defective ropes or any defect noticed thus must be reported Mill attendant and Front-End Foreman immediately.
• Overhead Crane operator is expected to be the Subject Matter Expert and attend meetings as well as training for improvement initiatives.
• Ensure good housekeeping on the Crane operation Room and all surroundings.
• An operator shall Assist in mill and cane house tasks such as maintenance work assigned during stop days or in case of any breakdown/emergence.
• Ensure proper handing over at the end of shift.
• Any other duties assigned by supervisor.
• Promote and adhere to Illovo’s procedures, policies, and guidelines, including, without limitation, those relating to SHERQ, Competition Law and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC).

Job Requirements:

• A proven experience on working with above 11 tons over head or gantry cranes.
• 2+ years post experience in a heavy industry environment with at least 1 years in the sugar industry.
• Good communication skills.
• Mentally and physically fit.
• Ready to work long hours.
• Creative, innovative and team working skills.
• Trouble shooting skills.
