ABOUT ADD International Tanzania

In Tanzania like many other countries, persons with disabilities are likely to experience discrimination linked to negative stereotypes associated with their impairment. ADD Tanzania works to address this by building an inclusive society that accepts persons with disabilities as part of the human diversity, through interventions that benefit and support all persons with disabilities’ dignity whatever their impairment, gender, religion, ethnic background, social status, and geographical location.

Across the country, we work with 15 local Disabled People’s Organisations reaching a total of 58,000 persons with disabilities. Our key priorities are inclusive education, tackling gender-based violence (GBV), and creating livelihood opportunities. Under each thematic area, we work with disability activists to empower local persons with disabilities, to challenge community stigma, and to hold powerholders to account for delivering on disability services and rights.

Our strategy lays out plans for delivering independence, equality, and opportunity for persons with disabilities in Tanzania.

ABOUT TASK ORDER 51- INCLUSIVE EDUCATION PROJECT

Task Order 51 is a two and a half-year Inclusive Education program implemented as a consortium between three Organizations that is ADD International, Sense International, and Leonard Cheshire, targeting children with disabilities.

Through the developed and proposed PPPIET model previously, this Task Order 51 will demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed PPPIET model for potential adoption nationally by the Government of Tanzania,  The project will be involved in strengthening the identification, and assessment of children with disabilities through multidisciplinary teams; increasing community awareness on disability and inclusive education through OPDs; strengthening Parent Teacher Partnerships, School Management Committees and school clubs; training teachers in screening and identification, inclusive pedagogy, adapting teaching and learning materials; improving infrastructure and safeguarding through SMC training and funding for renovations.

The project aims at ensuring that no child with disability is left behind, regardless of the type of disability, So Part of the focus of the program will be on changing the discriminatory attitudes of the community as well as of teachers and school stakeholders towards children with disabilities.
