Position Title: SENIOR OPEN PIT MINING ENGINEER

CONTEXT AND PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Senior Open Pit Mining Engineer manages the mining devel­opment through facilitation of optimized mine plan, designs and mining schedules, ensuring comprehensive tracking of mining operations progress and controlling the quality of min­ing operations including contractor’s in line with industrial best practice standards in safety and technical aspects.

Senior Open Pit Mining Engineer is accountable for short term to medium term mine planning, mine production and development planning, mine engineering design, mine project development studies; drill and blast planning, mine scheduling, tracking mine operations advancement or performance and advising the main stakeholders and management including but not limited to the reporting line of any important changes or fol­low up required in order to achieve desired long term organiza­tional goals while maintaining high standards of occupational health, safety and environmental practices

ACCOUNTABILITIES & AUTHORITIES OF THE ROLE

Senior Open Pit Mining Engineer has the following accountabilities and authorities:

• Provide input support in the preparation of Operational and Capital Budgeting.
• Management of periodic mine planning activities taking into account of the monthly, quarterly, yearly and long-term production plans.
• Overseeing at areas of their responsi­bility the health and safety of the worksite and employees, design mine infrastruc­tures, ventilation & extraction systems and mining services ensuring the safety of mining equipment and assessing mine equipment supplies.
• Administer mining production process­es, overseeing employees’ activities on worksites. Make sure that targets are met; discuss and solve any operational obstructions. In collaboration with desig­ nated position or roles, review schedules and implement necessary contingencies to meet production goals.

• Overseeing major construction projects and ensuring that operations run smooth­ly and within the budget. Ensure existing projects are tracked by individual plan­ners; schedules adjusted accordingly.
• Work in collaboration with mining shift supervisors or foremen on a regular basis to discuss plans and involve crews; review schedules and communicate concerns and targets at meetings.
• A sound knowledge on understating and ensuring mine design and or plans compliance based on the existing SOP for both drill & blast designs QAQC, toe check, ramp gradient/width compliance, bench/floor level etc.

• Capable of preparing a minimum of 5 years detailed mine plan and scheduling that includes mining physicals consol­idation and metal plan profile; ensure monthly or quarterly production forecasts are compiled and issued in a timely manner.
• Must be able to demonstrated a high level skills on management/supervision, construction and monitoring of other infrastructure construction that support mining operations, that includes but not limited to TSF construction, haul road construction, waste rock construction, etc.
• Reasonably good understanding on the mining operation, activities coordination, labour/personnel planning and equipment scheduling to achieve maximum productivity at a relatively low

REQUIRED SKILLED KNOWLEDGE

Qualification:

• At least a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mining Engineering from a recognized University.
• Must be a holder of the valid blasting certificate according to the Mining Act and Regulation.

• Must be registered by a Tanzanian professional regulatory body and one of the International bodies preferably SAIMM orAusIMM.
• A valid Tanzanian driving licence

Experience:

• An overall minimum of 7 years’ experience in the surface mining method.
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience in mine planning, mine design, optimization study, cut-off grade estimation and or project evaluation in general.
• Proof of proficiency in conducting drill
