The Server Administrator is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and reliable operation of computer servers and related components. This includes ensuring the availability of client/server applications, configuring all new implementations, and developing processes and procedures for ongoing management of the server environment.
Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain server hardware and software components.
- Set up new servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
- Perform system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all server resources, systems, and key processes.
- Review system and application logs and verify completion of scheduled jobs, including system backups.
- Implement and maintain security measures to safeguard servers against unauthorized access, data breaches, and other security threats.
- Ensure servers comply with organizational security policies and standards
- Proactively monitor and optimize server performance, addressing performance issues and collaborating with other teams to implement solutions.
- Conduct performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as needed.
- Develop and maintain backup and recovery procedures, ensuring data integrity and availability.
- Test and verify backups to ensure data can be restored in the event of a disaster.
- Respond to system outages and other issues promptly, diagnosing and resolving technical problems.
- Provide technical support and guidance to end-users and other IT personnel.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of server configurations, processes, and procedures.
- Create and update documentation for system-related processes and workflows.
- Work closely with other IT teams, including network administrators, database administrators, and support personnel, to ensure seamless integration and operation of systems.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Proven experience as a server administrator or in a similar role.
- Strong knowledge of server operating systems (e.g., Windows Server, Linux/Unix).
- Familiarity with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
- Understanding of networking concepts and protocols.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
