Background 

Enabel is the official Belgian Development Agency that is working in 19 countries globally. In Tanzania Enabel (formally BTC) focuses on water, natural resources, good governance and agriculture. The Sustainable Agriculture Kigoma Region Project supports 20.000 farmers in 6 districts in Kigoma region. The construction of bridges is an important component to improve access from farm to agricultural markets. The plan is to construct 50 bridges in 2.5 years.  Stone arch bridge technology is used to make maximum use of locally available resources. The construction of rural markets and storage facilities will be included upon local demand. For the construction of this infrastructure, two site supervisors will be employed and a recruitment pool developed in function of further expansion.

Tasks

• Basic administration of the bridge construction projects (supervision works, site reports, measurements for payments).
• Regular site inspection with emphasis on quality assurance, meeting building/safety standards, respecting construction schedules and budgets.
• Liaise with the village governments for the mobilisation of local building materials so that timelines and the local contribution are respected.
• Liaise with TARURA for the certification and payments of craftsmen and contractors

Profile & skills 

1. At least Diploma in Civil Engineering or equivalent
2. Experience: > 3 years experience of quality control of craftsmen and contractors High awareness of construction quality standards and attention to technical details. 
3. Motorcycle driving license and experience.
4. Fluent in Kiswahili and working knowledge of English (understanding technical documents)
5. IT literacy to adjust bill of quantities, compile data (excel) and write small reports (word) is a plus. Smartphone literate for transmitting pictures, data and communication via WhatsApp.
6. Willing to relocate within Kigoma region in function of the construction sites.
7. Tanzanian national
