The Senior Driver is responsible for driving the Ambassador and other Embassy staff as required, maintaining the Embassy vehicles, and providing administrative assistance to support the work of the Embassy. This role involves a wide variety of tasks as detailed below, including supporting the wider work of the Embassy.
Role and Responsibilities:
The precise range of duties will vary over time according to the requirements of the Embassy. Significant out-of-hours work will be expected but within the local employment law provisions. This role will include, but may not be limited to the following activities:
- Driving the Ambassador to and from official engagements, driving other Embassy staff, picking up official visitors as required.
- Ensuring safety while driving the Ambassador and other passengers in official vehicles.
- Taking responsibility for the safety of the Embassy staff and other passengers while they are in the official vehicles.
- Arranging insurance and technical inspection of all official vehicles and any other administration related to the vehicles.
- Keeping track of mileage, fuel, and toll expenses.
- Utilizing traffic tools (like GPS systems) to optimize transport.
- Assisting with Embassy events by transporting and loading equipment as required.
- Daily collection and delivery of post; managing the dispatch of diplomatic letters.
- Ensuring all Embassy vehicles are stocked with relevant supplies for extended journeys or field trips.
- Supervising the transport team and reporting regularly to the Properties Management Officer.
- Transporting staff to official meetings, events, and travel outside Dar es Salaam.
- Transporting other authorized passengers as directed by the Embassy.
- Performing other functions as required, subject to the business needs of the Embassy.
Essential Requirements:
- Fluency in English and Kiswahili; a test will apply.
- Extensive previous driving experience, including at the executive level.
- Clean and current driving license (Class C), with highly competent driving skills and an accident-free record for the last three years.
- Possess a Trade Test Grade II Certificate from VETA or any other reputable institution.
- Holder of National Form VI certificate.
- Strong geographical knowledge of Dar es Salaam and Tanzania, with a solid understanding of Tanzanian Road Regulations and Laws.
- Security management skills and understanding of operations and procedures.
- Good judgment and decision-making ability.
- Excellent administrative skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- High level of discretion, commitment, and reliability.
- Flexible attitude, good judgment, and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to use GPS/online maps.
- Availability to work out-of-hours and additional hours, as required.
- Medical/Health checks will apply.
- Legal entitlement to live and work in Tanzania prior to recruitment.
Terms and Conditions of Employment:
The successful candidate will be hired on a fixed-term contractual basis and will be based at the Embassy of Ireland, Dar es Salaam.
- Working hours: 38 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with standard office hours from 08:00 AM to 04:30 PM.
- Salary: TSH 1,685,909 per month and TSH 21,916,819 annually (including a 13th month), plus health insurance and training opportunities. Salaries are tax-deducted and paid directly to a bank account.
