Maternity Africa is a Christian-based not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing fistula treatment and quality maternity care for marginalized women across Tanzania. We operate with a mission to display love, kindness, and compassion, irrespective of race, religion, or ethnicity, through clinical excellence. Our base of operations is the Kivulini Maternity Centre, located just outside Arusha in Northern Tanzania.

About the Role

We are looking for a motivated and eager-to-learn Biomedical Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of medical equipment and a commitment to ensuring patient safety. In this crucial role, you will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and calibration of various medical devices, providing essential technical support to our clinical staff, conducting equipment handling training, and contributing to the evaluation and selection of new equipment.

Role Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on a diverse range of medical devices, including imaging equipment, patient monitoring systems, and laboratory equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment malfunctions effectively.
  • Calibrate and test equipment to guarantee accuracy and safety standards.
  • Provide comprehensive technical support to clinical staff.
  • Participate actively in the evaluation and selection process for new equipment.
  • Maintain meticulous records of all maintenance and repair activities undertaken.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety and regulatory standards.
  • Undertake any other relevant duties as assigned by the line manager/supervisor.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills Required

  • A Diploma in Biomedical Engineering Technology.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical equipment and electronics.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in report writing is essential.
  • Certifications such as Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) will be considered an advantage.
