KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate birth companionship promotion activities at the facility and community levels including distribution and postering of promotional materials, supporting and monitoring community health workers’ birth companionship-related activities, supporting birth companionship focal persons to provide information on birth companionship at the ANC clinics as needed.
- Work with project manager, Regional and council health management teams to supervise maternity ward improvements to accommodate birth companions in delivery rooms in the supported facilities and ensure the improvements are well maintained.
- Support the project manager to promote a favorable environment of collaboration at the facilities among health providers, delivering women and birth companions to ensure birth companionship practice leads to more satisfaction to delivering women.
- Work with project manager, Regional and council health management teams to plan, organize and facilitate birth companionship community sensitization meetings in project catchment areas in Kigoma and Katavi
- Work with project manager, Regional and council health management teams to plan, organize and facilitate community score card meetings to improve community accountability to support/promote birth companionship and other components of respectful maternity care in project catchment areas in Kigoma and Katavi
- Support project manager in planning, organizing and conducting semi-annual stakeholders’ Birth companionship sustainability meetings in Kigoma and Katavi to review and share project progress reports and develop action plans for improvement.
- Coordinate the collection of quantitative and qualitative community and facility routine and endline project evaluation data
- Ensure goals agreed with the project manager are implemented in a professional manner and achieved as planned.
- Conduct facility and community field visits up to 70% of time to monitor project activities.
- Support the Project manager in developing monthly progress and final Project implementation report.
- Support the project team in designing the subsequent phase of the Project.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Degree in medicine, nursing, public health or community development with at least three years of working experience.
- Experience in coordinating facility and community-based health projects, organizing and facilitating participatory trainings, working with rural communities, providing health education, collecting and processing monitoring data.
SKILLS AND OTHER QUALITIES:
- Good organizational skills
- Good interpersonal communication skills and ability to develop working relationships with a wide range of people including project staff, health providers and government leaders.
- Data collection and basic data management skills
- Fluent in English and Kiswahili
- Flexibility and team working spirit
- Willingness and ability to travel frequently in rural Kigoma
- Good computer knowledge in MS Word and Excel
Compensation: Salary will be set according to education, experience, and previous compensation history.
