The Tanzania Women Chamber of Commerce (TWCC) – www.twcc-tz.org is a pivotal organization uniting various women and youth entrepreneurs across Tanzania. Established in December 2005, TWCC serves as an apex and umbrella entity, encompassing sectoral Business Women Associations, Companies, Cooperatives, Groups, and Sole proprietors. Currently boasting a membership exceeding 15,000, TWCC’s reach extends to over 1 million women from all sectors of the economy, spanning 27 Regional Chapters in Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar, along with 14 Women Sectoral Associations, and 11 Platforms catering to women in Cross Border Trade.
TWCC’s primary objective is to foster unity among women and youth entrepreneurs, including those in the informal sector, to promote business formalization and growth. Through robust capacity-building initiatives and mentorship programs, TWCC endeavors to alleviate poverty among women by equipping them with the necessary skills and resources for success. Moreover, TWCC collaborates closely with both private and public sector entities to advocate for favorable policies conducive to the flourishing of women-owned enterprises.
Job Summary:
The Business Development Officer at the Tanzania Women Chamber of Commerce (TWCC) plays a pivotal role in identifying and developing new business opportunities, fostering relationships with stakeholders, and promoting TWCC’s services and initiatives. This role requires a strategic and innovative thinker with a strong commitment to empowering women and youth in business.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the implementation of TWCC activities in the ongoing green and smart cities project in Tanga.
- Conduct market research to identify business opportunities for women and youth entrepreneurs.
- Analyze industry trends, market dynamics, and competitor activities to inform strategic planning.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with new and existing TWCC members.
- Identify potential members and partners, fostering relationships to expand TWCC’s network.
- Prepare and deliver pitches, presentations, and proposals to members and partners.
- Schedule stakeholder meetings and facilitate communication between members, TWCC leadership, and external partners.
- Develop and implement strategies to increase membership and sponsorship revenues.
- Promote TWCC’s services and initiatives through various channels, including events, workshops, and online platforms.
- Assist in the development and implementation of business strategies that align with TWCC’s mission and objectives.
- Identify and assess new business opportunities and potential partnerships that benefit women and youth entrepreneurs.
- Oversee the implementation of business development projects from inception to completion.
- Monitor project progress, ensuring timelines and objectives are met, and provide regular updates to the regional office and Headquarters.
- Prepare regular reports on business development activities, including progress, challenges, and results.
- Provide support and guidance to the regional members.
Academic and Professional Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Community Development, Project Management, or a related field.
Work Experience:
- 3 years of experience in project implementation, business development, or marketing, preferably within a non-government organization.
- Proven track record of achieving business targets and driving business growth.
Technical Skills and Behavioral Competencies:
- Knowledge of the local business environment and challenges faced by women and youth entrepreneurs in Tanzania.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to manage budgets and review financial statements.
- Good understanding of Project Management.
- Ability to research new markets.
- Proposal writing skills and fundraising experience will be an added advantage.
- Knowledge of regional integration processes and their implications for women entrepreneurs.
- Commitment to TWCC’s mission of promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment in business and economic development.
