Job Description
Job title: Chief Executive Officer
Location: Arusha, Tanzania

Reports to: Board of Directors

Job Role
To lead the company’s team to deliver on our strategy, grow to new heights, and serve clients effectively. As the Chief Executive Officer, it is your role to develop a culture of trust, creativity, and continuous improvement at the Company. Alongside oversight of programmes, you will be responsible for advancing Company’s business and financial model, which is currently balanced between earned revenue and philanthropy.

Responsibilities

Strategy & Management (40%)

  • Supervise and manage the Tanzania-based management team
  • Work with the management team and the Board to develop strategies for the achievement of company’s vision
  • Lead annual and quarterly in-country planning processes and staff goal setting, in alignment with company’s vision and short, medium, and long-term goals
  • Provide insightful and analytical updates to management, working as a partner and thought-leader
  • Ensure that the company Board of Directors is properly apprised on strategic direction, policy change, financial health, risks, legal and compliance matters, and all other matters required to advise the organization

Financial Management & Revenue Generation (25%)

  • In partnership with the Fundraising Manager, actively solicit new institutional contracts and fee-for-service engagements that fit our core skills, confirm the scope of work and allocate resources for effective project management
  • In partnership with the Fundraising Manager, cultivate and steward current and potential donors, including foundations, high net-worth individuals, impact investors, and local businesses
  • Serve as an in-country point-of-contact for institutional contracts
  • In partnership with the Director of Finance, develop and manage the annual company budget
  • Review and approve filings for taxes, supervising processes for accounting
  • Participate in the annual audit process 

Programmes Oversight (25%)

  • Oversee all programmatic elements of the Company Accelerator and the Company Growth Fund
  • Work with management team to identify, test, and modify services to fit diverse client needs as well as Company’s vision
  • Supervise Client Services Director to ensure that department meets sales and service delivery goals in support of the Company Accelerator’s growing client base
  • Work closely with Company Growth Fund management to ensure portfolio performance and participate in investment committee meetings
  • Work closely with the Board of Directors and M&E lead to track organisation metrics

    Partnerships, external stakeholders & communications (10%)
  • Develop and maintain relevant high-level partnerships and collaborations, including with local and national government partners
  • Serve as lead spokesperson for Company
  • Represent Company at ministry meetings, conferences, and other public speaking engagements

Academic qualifications
Essential

  • Advanced education qualifications (i.e. Master degree)

  • Experience in managing people and managing to results
  • Proven track record in fundraising and business development
