Background and Purpose of Assignment: Save the Children’s work globally is guided by its global strategy Ambition for Children 2030, which focuses on inspiring three specific breakthroughs for children around the world by 2030:
In Tanzania, Save the Children is working towards achieving the following changes for children by 2030
To reach these goals, Save the Children has developed a Country Strategic Plan for the period 2016-2018, with more specific outcomes to guide its work in Education, Child Protection, Health and Nutrition, and Child Rights Governance. Currently, Save the Children works with nearly 20 local partners and in support of the local governments in following locations: Dar es Salaam, Shinyanga, Songwe, Lindi, Kigoma and Zanzibar (Unguja and Pemba). In 2016, Save the Children Tanzania reached 424,225 boys and girls and 439,771 men and women. Zanzibar is currently in the process of rolling out three important training manuals, including the Positive Parenting Manual, Positive Discipline in Schools manual and Positive Discipline in Madrassa Schools manual. Currently, the Child Protection and Child Rights Governance Team is staffed by 2 Senior Child Protection Officers, One CP/CRG Coordinator, and one CP/CRG Manager. A Child Rights Governance Officer has recently commenced employment with the team. One of the Senior Child Protection Officers is now on extended medical leave until the end of November. Assistance is urgently required to cover various Child Protection activities in the CP/CRG team, while the Senior CP Officer is on medical leave, and also there are other CP activities within the team that can be greatly enhanced by the additional support a CP intern could provide. Two main areas where assistance is required 1. Assistance is required in the overseeing of training of teachers in the Positive Discipline in Schools manual, as the training is due to commence, next week. The key area where assistance is required is to provide a Save the Children representative at these training sessions so that they are able to report back to Save the Children lead program staff about 1) numbers of participants, 2) response of participants to the training etc. and also to ensure practical arrangements are in place eg. 1) training materials are available at each training session eg projectors, stationary etc. and 2) to ensure that transport payments are made to participants etc. 2. Assistance is also needed for the support of the roll out of Tuseme Clubs which happens on the weekends. The key area where assistance is required is to provide a Save the Children representative at the Tuseme Clubs training sessions so that they are able to report back to Save the Children lead program staff about 1) numbers of participants, 2) response of participants to the training etc. and also to ensure practical arrangements are in place eg. 1) training materials are available at each training session eg projectors, stationary etc. and 2) to ensure that transport payments are made to participants etc. The scope of Work:
