Position Summary
The Ifakara Health Institute, through the PMI Shinda (Defeat) Malaria project is preparing to conduct a Therapeutic Efficacy Study (TES), an antimalarial drug efficacy and safety study in Ngara DC. The study involves screening, enrolment, and treatment of children (6 months to 10 years old) with the first line and alternative antimalarial drugs and following them up for 28 or 42 days to assess treatment outcomes. The study is expected to run for six (6) months from mid-May to mid-October 2024.
The Clinical Officer will work under the directive of the Principal Investigator of the study. He/she will be involved in consenting, screening, recruiting, treating and assessing patient treatment outcomes. In addition, the successful candidates will be involved in the collection, analysis, recording, interpreting and storage of clinical data. The nature of the position requires a high level of commitment, ability to work under tight schedules and long hours.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate all clinical related activities at the study site.
- Manage all site administrative activities at the site
- Manage the data collection process by ensuring properly filled CRFs.
- Ensure consent processes are well observed per SOPs.
- Ensure all study materials are available and ready for use.
- Organize and lead daily meetings to discuss and resolve any issues.
- Compile a bi-weekly report of generated data and submit it to the TES PI.
- Undertake any other tasks that the supervisor shall reasonably require from time to time
Qualification and Experience
- Diploma in clinical medicine
- Valid GCP training certificate
- Valid practicing license
- Experience of not less than 2 years of working in clinical research, particularly in
Skills and Competencies
- A computer skill in Microsoft Access, Excel and PowerPoint
- Ability to communicate in English and Kiswahili
- Flexibility in working hours
- Ability to work accurately, diligently, and independently
- Good teamwork and ability to work well with members of the public
- Experience in GCP-compliant medical research
- Self-motivated and highly focused attitude to work
- Good verbal and written communication skills in English
- Review and lead the standard recruiting and hiring practices and procedures
- Interview management and executive candidates
