Overview

The Communication Consultant will report directly to the Country Director(CD). The Communications Consultant will be responsible for creating and managing a four-month to one ear communications plan,  inclusive of sourcing and writing editorial stories, planning and executing media events and program-based activities. He/she is expected to enhance the organization’s overall public image within the country. The incumbent will work closely with the Program Manager, the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Officer and the Education specialist.

Primary Responsibilities

  1. In support of the planning and implementation of the country office communication plan, the consultant will:-
  • Review and update the draft communication plan developed by the CO to align it with the priorities of the period under the contract
  • Provide The leadership for overall communications related to RTP in Tanzania
  • Review all communication materials to ensure that all materials and messages are in line with project grant agreements
  • Develop a community behavior change communication plan aligned with the project's expected results
  • Conduct field visits to project sites and ensure proper dissemination of information for community events, specific regular dialogues, and government representatives agreement
  • Ensure RTP promotion of various community sensitization events in-line with national strategy and behavioral and social goals.
  • Facilitates relationship building with country and community opinion leaders and disseminate behavior change messages for social mobilization campaigns in the country
  • Review and assures communication material produced in compliance with RTP brand book, Child protection policy, gender equality policy and other policies related to communications
  • Develop systems for effective and efficient communications and best practice sharing within the country office
  • Create and implement a communications plan to source and write stories, what photograph of the children,  teachers, coaches, children and other key informant people in our programs. Work with headquarters to develop ongoing, shareable stories about the children in our programs.
  • Oversee the photo archiving process
  • Shaky programmatic and organization updates, inclusive of relevant documents, reports, photographs, statistics and links with Headquarters to share in the monthly Global  Communications Newsletter.
  • Develop informational and promotional material on RTP projects.
  • Liaise with printing and design companies, edits design when required.
  • Oversees and approves all print proofs in the country before being printed including T-shirts and documents.
  1. With regards to the media and public relations, the consultant will support the country office to:
  • Develop and maintain relationships with the country, and Tanzania based media
  • Closely monitor and track media coverage for Right to Play and support for development in the country
  • Establish contact with media and write media releases and success stories
  • Conduct media development activities in the country to advocate for the role of sport for development and the role sport can do in meeting development goals
  • Promote partnerships across the organization and beyond and represents Right to Play all relevant communications networks
  • Share all media stories with headquarters
  • Develop and implement media relations strategy for any high profile visits to the country including preparing background materials and relevant packages

Minimum Qualifications(Must Have)

Education/Training/Certification

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, public relation or any related field

Experience

  • 3 to 5 years experience reporting and writing for a newspaper and/or media outlet
  • 3 years experience with I/NGO in the country of operation including media relations and developing communication plans and material.

Technical Skills

  • Strong Microsoft office and the ability to use powerpoint
  • Strong in using adobe photoshop and adobe illustrator
  • Understanding of principles of inclusion in sport and play

Languages

Excellent written and spoken English and local language(s), Kiswahili

Desired Qualification(An Asset)

  • Graphic design, photography, video production and post-production and printing experience
  • A familiarity of social media platforms Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
  • Familiarity with a smartphone
  • Demonstrable experience in networking
  • Understanding of human rights and social change issues
  • Experience working in child protection
