Epi Supervisor (Nursing Team Supervisor)
Reporting to: Nursing Activity Manager (NAM)
Location: Liwale, Lindi, Tanzania
Main Purpose
Plan, organize, and evaluate Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) activities, including nursing and team-related tasks, in alignment with MSF values, policies, protocols, and universal health standards. The goal is to ensure the quality and continuity of immunization services and the effective implementation and development of the action plan.
Accountabilities
- Plan, supervise, and evaluate all Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) activities, including routine immunizations, supplemental immunization activities, and outreach services, ensuring adherence to MSF protocols and universal health standards.
- Perform nursing tasks when necessary to optimize resources, providing care and support with professional knowledge and experience.
- Protocol and Hygiene Standards:
- Implement and ensure adherence to all hygiene protocols and procedures within the EPI activities. Supervise the team to maintain the same standards to guarantee the quality of care and services.
- Organize and coordinate team activities, including weekly schedules, annual leave, and coverage for absences.
- Evaluate team performance, identify training needs, and ensure staff receive appropriate capacity-building to maintain high-quality immunization services.
- Oversee the management of the cold chain, ensuring proper storage, transportation, and handling of vaccines according to established guidelines.
- Pharmacy and Medical Equipment Management:
- Supervise the management of medical supplies and equipment, including vaccine stock, drugs, and related materials.
- Monitor storage conditions, conduct inventories, track consumption, manage expired items, and ensure timely replenishment.
- Ensure all staff involved in EPI activities are adequately trained in vaccine administration and related medical device use.
- Supervise cleaning and minor maintenance of medical equipment, ensuring tasks are performed according to protocols. Report any malfunctions to the biomedical service.
- Coordinate administrative tasks, including maintaining accurate patient files, immunization records, and data collection forms.
- Prepare and submit regular reports with statistical analysis of EPI activities, coverage rates, and challenges to support decision-making and planning.
- Work with community health workers to improve community awareness and participation in immunization activities.
- Address vaccine hesitancy and encourage acceptance of routine and supplemental immunization services.
- Conduct regular monitoring of immunization sites, outreach activities, and vaccine delivery processes to ensure adherence to standards and identify areas for improvement.
- Provide feedback and regular updates to the medical focal point, highlighting achievements, challenges, and recommendations for improving EPI activities.
Minimum Requirements
Educational Qualification
- Essential: Diploma in Nursing & Midwifery
- Essential: Valid registered nursing license to practice
Experience
- Essential: At least two (2) years experienced in-charge and/or supervisory role in Nursing activities
- Added value: Conducting training and work experience in EPI activities
- Desirable: MSF and NGO work experience
Knowledge
- Essential: Computer literacy (WORD, EXCEL and INTERNET)
