Located in Moshi, Maua Mazuri sells disease-free and high-yielding seedlings produced in our state-of-the-art plant tissue culture laboratory. Job Description

The financial controller (further: AC) will take care of the company’s financial statements, reporting, budgeting and will also support, implement and monitor systems for the tracking and tracing of our company’s seedlings. Hundreds of thousands of seedlings will be moving from our lab to our nursery and then to our clients. The tracking and tracing will be from a logistics and a financial point of view and then in sales regarding invoicing. The AC will work closely with and have the support of the rest of the financial administration and operational and sales teams, but at any given moment will be entirely responsible for the reporting on the whereabouts of plant seedlings. The AC reports to the Chief Executive Officer (further: CEO) for all financial-related responsibilities and to the Chief Operations Officer (further: COO) for the track & trace responsibilities.

In order to succeed in this task, the AC must be highly skilled in accounting processes and also be a good team member, as he or she will be working with the lab team, nursery, and sales teams to track all of our stock.

Key Activities & Responsibilities

  • Supports the implementation of an adequate track & trace system, monitors and controls the use of the system and sets up and monitors the invoice administration, in close cooperation with all internal stakeholders.
  • Maximizes return on financial assets by establishing financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems.
  • Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Protects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls.
  • Monitors and confirms financial condition by conducting audits and providing information to external auditors.
  • Prepares budgets by establishing schedules; collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data; recommending plans.
  • Achieves budget objectives by scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
  • Provides status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data.
  • Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Completes operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees; following up on work results in finance and track & trace administration.
  • Supports and assists the CEO in training and improving the financial skills of other staff.
  • Assists the CEO in collecting data, financial and partly non-financial, in order to set up and draft the quarterly and annual MIS & year reports to shareholders of the company.

Required Education/Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in accounting/finance.
  • Experience with financial reporting requirements.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Accurate and good in time management.
  • Excellent written English and fluent in Swahili (written and verbal), with good communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficient in MS Word and PowerPoint; excellent in Excel.
  • Open mind and eager to continuously learn and improve professional skills.
  • Good communicator and team player, able to work as a “spider in the web”.
