GENERAL MANAGER – OPERATIONS SUPPORT

Acacia Mining seeks to employ a General Manager – Operations Support based at based at Dar es Salaam Office in Tanzania. This role reports to the Managing Director – Tanzania and the role holder will be accountable to provide technical support, leadership, strategies, and systems that drive fundamental business improvement in safety, productivity and unit cost across the company.This is a residential role based in Dar es Salaam with regular travel to mine sites as required.

CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • The leadership of Operations Support Team and member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) o Provide leadership to the Operational Support Team. The role entails leading the Chief Advisors that provide the Company with functional support in Environmental, Safety, Health and Security and technical support in Mining, Metallurgy, Geology, Asset Reliability and Long-Term Planning.o As a member of the SLT, the incumbent is expected to advise on strategies in ensuring business improvement and operational excellence in all the operational support functions to enable the operations deliver their plans and continuously improve.o Provide technical input and management of the Graduate Programs across the ESH&S and Technical Functions.o Ensure that team members have clear Role Descriptions and that objectives are met.o Conduct Performance and Development Reviews for team members. 
  • Environment, Health, Safety and Security (EHS&S) Governance:o Implementation of a governance system across Acacia sites for development and implementation of policies, standards, and procedures.o Provide support and guidance for improvements across Acacia in the EHS&S Function.o Provide effective advice and guidance to address concerns and problems in EHS&S Function.o Ensure data, records management and reporting for EHS&S data by providing an effective system.o Ensure standards are in place to guide risk management for the ESH&S Function.o Ensure standards are in place for incident management for the ESH&S Functions.o Monitor, provide support and guidance for management of TSF and Water Balances.o Implementation of a robust audit system for ESH&S.
  • Technical Support, Improvement Strategies and Governance To
  • Ensure a reporting system is in place to measure operational performance trends.o Development and implementation of Asset Reliability strategies and systems.o Ensure that strategies are in place for supporting sites in the geology, mining, technical services, metallurgy and long-term planning.o Ensure systems are in place to identify the gaps between technical limits and actual performance and strategies are developed with sites to achieved operational excellence. 
  • Support for Technical Mine and Geology Planning to ensure:o Reserves and Resources modeling, reporting and analysis.o Life of Mine planning.o Guidance for planning and analysis of geology work (including site drilling programs).
  • Project Management Support:o Support and guidance for development and implementation of an effective Project Management System for the Company.o Implement a tracking system for high priority projects in Acacia.o Implement a system for the management and governance of the Company’s Strategic high priority projects.
  • Lead Scoping and Feasibility Studies:o Lead scoping and feasibility studies (Greenfields and Brownfields) for projects such as Bulyanhulu Restart, Liranda, Nyanzaga, Rama Underground, Burkina Faso and Mali.o Lead Operational Readiness for Bulyanhulu Restart.
  • Support for Managing Director, Tanzania and Operations General Managers:o Maintain frequent contact with Operations General Managers to understand site issues and provide support/ resources as required.o Provide regular updates and information to the Managing Director, Tanzania on the status of the operations, ongoing issues and concerns.
  • Compliance:o Implement the Company’s Compliance Program in area of accountability.
  • • Capital Management:o Ensure system is in place to review and recommend all Capital expenditure for operations support functions.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

Qualification Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualifications in either of Mining, Geology, Engineering, Metallurgy, Finance.
  • Post Graduate Degree in Finance, Business or related will be advantageous.
  • Member of ERB/ SAIMM/ AUSIMM or equivalent.
  • Member of corporate or BI recognized group will be advantageous.
  • Knowledge in:o Finance and Economics Risk Management Corporate Development

Experience Requirements:

  • 10 – 15 years’ experience in operational and/or technical, incorporate and operation roles.
  • 5-10 years in a Leadership Role.
  • Experience in leading a major company-wide BI change.
