Job Description
PowerGen Renewable Energy is a micro-grid developer, implementer, and operator in East Africa, reshaping the prevailing rural electrification model in the region. PowerGen is creating an African energy system that utilizes clean, renewable energy and smarter grids to deliver power to all.

As the Grid Development Associate, you will play a critical role in supporting the company’s mission by identifies potential micro-grid sites and finding potential customers. You will be responsible for marketing PowerGen micro-grids to potential customers through village meetings and individual conversations and collecting applications from all potential customers. You will report to the Grid Development Manager and work closely across the TZ Customer Division as well as other teams, including the PX Team, i.e. Engineering, Installation and Supply Chain in selecting customers and providing important information on road accessibility etc. 
 

What You’ll Make Happen: 

  • Liaising with government officials to obtain all necessary permits, letters of introduction, and licenses from regional and district offices needed to conduct work at current or prospective microgrid sites.
  • Completing site surveying trips to identify potential micro-grid sites.
  • Completing customer application trips to find potential customers and other information needed for micro-grid installations.
  • Communicating effectively with village elders and councils to explain the micro-grid concept, obtain land lease agreements, and ensure positive community relationships for micro-grid sites.
  • Educating and registering micro-grid customers during micro-grid installations.
  • Managing all expenses and document all necessary information while in the field in an organized and efficient manner, following existing company systems and policies.
  • Coordinating logistics for field work, including transport, accommodation, and planning routes before embarking on any trips to the field.
  • Efficient management of materials and tools required for your work, including electronics such as GPS devices and tablets used for fieldwork.
  • Maintaining close communication with the Micro-Grid Manager throughout any and all field work
  • Providing post-installation customer service to micro-grid customers.
  • Supervising and training Site Surveyors during any and all of the above areas as needed.
  • Other tasks and responsibilities may be asked of you – we are looking for a dynamic individual who is willing to help out wherever is needed in a fast-paced growing company.

You Already Have:

  • University degree.
  • 2+ years’ work experience
  • Tanzanian citizen or possessing a valid Tanzanian work permit
  • Experience in sales & marketing a plus.
  • Fieldwork experience highly preferred, particularly in Tanzania.
  • Fluency in Kiswahili and English, both in written and oral communications.
  • Passion for serving and engaging customers.
  • Knowledge of the energy, clean tech or utility sectors.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, with exceptional Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills.
  • Practiced flexibility to lend a hand wherever needed.
  • Enthusiasm in working in the field of renewable energy!
