Project Description

MTI Tanzania, in collaboration with TechBridge Invest Africa and Sote Hub, and supported by Norway, is launching a new project designed to develop a comprehensive entrepreneurship support program focused on the Blue Economy and Marine Litter sectors in Kenya and Tanzania. The program includes innovation challenges, incubation, acceleration, and post-acceleration support, all aimed at empowering startups and SMEs in these critical industries. The goal is to build a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem to tackle the unique challenges facing the Blue Economy and Marine Plastic Pollution in the region.

About the Role

As the Head of the Incubation and Acceleration Program in Tanzania, you will be responsible for the following:

1. Incubation Program:

  • Co-design and co-implement a comprehensive incubation program aimed at identifying, nurturing, and supporting early-stage startups in the Blue Economy and Marine Litter sectors.
  • Establish partnerships to provide mentorship, technical assistance, and access to resources for the incubated startups.
  • Monitor the progress of incubated startups and support their successful transition to the acceleration phase.

2. Acceleration Program:

  • Co-develop and co-manage the acceleration program to help high-potential entrepreneurs scale their businesses.
  • Curate a robust curriculum and training modules.
  • Facilitate access to resources, including mentorship, industry expertise, and networking opportunities to accelerate startup growth.
  • Build partnerships with investors, corporates, and other ecosystem players to create pathways for the startups to secure funding and market access.

3. Program Management and Monitoring:

  • Responsible for marketing, sourcing, and selecting participants at Incubation, Acceleration, and Post-acceleration stages of the project.
  • Ensure effective coordination and integration between the incubation and acceleration programs.
  • Establish monitoring and evaluation frameworks to track program progress and impact.
  • Prepare regular reports and communicate the program's achievements and learnings to the project stakeholders.

4. Stakeholder Engagement and Ecosystem Building:

  • Actively engage with the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Tanzania, including startups, investors, corporates, and government entities.
  • Collaborate with relevant organizations and initiatives to leverage synergies and strengthen the ecosystem in the Blue Economy and Marine Litter sectors.
  • Represent the program and share insights at industry events, conferences, and relevant platforms.

Qualifications/Background:

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Engineering, Commerce, or a related field.
  • Minimum five years of proven experience in managing incubation and acceleration programs, preferably in the Blue Economy or Marine Litter sectors.
  • Strong understanding of the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Tanzania and the challenges faced by startups in the target sectors.
  • Demonstrated track record of successfully supporting and scaling impact-driven startups with sustainable business models.
  • Excellent networking and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse ecosystem players.
  • Proficient in program management and analytical skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Excellent computer skills.

Added Advantage (not required):

  • Previous experience working with international development organizations or donor-funded projects.
  • Master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset.
