Head Of Operations - Job Description

JOB PROFILE

To oversee and coordinate daily operations of the company, ensuring efficient supply chain management, inventory control, staff supervision, and smooth distribution across retail and wholesale channels in Tanzania.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage procurement of pet/dog products (food, accessories, grooming items, medicines if applicable).

  • Coordinate with local and international suppliers to ensure timely deliveries.

  • Oversee warehousing, inventory control, and stock rotation to avoid expiries and losses.

  • Ensure proper handling and storage of pet products in compliance with quality standards.

  • Plan and manage product distribution to shops, vets, supermarkets, and distributors.

  • Coordinate transport and delivery schedules to major cities and regions.

  • Monitor delivery costs and optimize logistics efficiency.

  • Supervise warehouse staff, drivers, shop attendants, and operations officers.

  • Prepare duty rosters, assign tasks, and monitor performance.

  • Train staff on product handling, customer service, and operational procedures.

  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs).

  • Maintain accurate operational records (stock, deliveries, returns, damages).

  • Work with sales team to ensure stock availability for promotions and campaigns.

  • Ensure compliance with Tanzanian regulations related to imports, product safety, and animal care.

  • Enforce workplace safety and hygiene standards.

  • Prepare weekly and monthly operational reports.

  • Track operational KPIs such as stock turnover, delivery time, and losses

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Logistics, or related field.

  • Minimum 3-5 years' experience in operations management (FMCG, retail, or distribution preferred).

  • Experience handling inventory and logistics in Tanzania.

  • Strong organizational and leadership skills.
