Laboratory Technician

Reporting to the Academic Head – SONAM, The incumbent will be overseeing the management, organization, and daily activities of the science & skills lab facility and store room, and ensure that the appropriate types and quantities of equipment are at all times available for use in the labs.

Some of the responsibilities are:

·         Ensure manikins are clean and in good working condition all the time

·         Monitor and report any damages/out of order equipment to responsible faculty

·         Carry our basic maintenance service equipment’s

·         Preparations of labs for the variety of incoming classes

·         Setting out chemicals in appropriate containers and at appropriate locations in the laboratories

·         Preparing specimens, samples, slides, solutions cultures, and reagents.

·         Performing closing duties at the end of each laboratory period.

·         Keeping log

·         Helping with the establishment, maintenance, and updating of Safety policy within the Labs

·         Following, and ensuring strict safety protocol and procedure

·         Maintaining MSDS databases, and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems (WHMIS) labeling for all chemicals, reagents, and cultures Explaining and enforcing safety equipment, Keeping current with safety regulations and carrying out risk assessments for lab activities

·         Storeroom management

Skills, Qualifications, and Experience

·         Diploma or equivalent qualification(related to life sciences and medical technology)

·         First aid/CPR and WHMIS certification

·         Experience in a lab setting: especially  in a clinical nursing skills lab, microbiology, biochemistry, biomedical

·         Experience in inventory and stock handling

·         Experience managing budgets and invoices.

·         Experience with word, outlook, and EXCEL software.

·         Previous experience with MSDS, WHMIS, and lab safety/protocol

·         Work or education requiring knowledge of microbial culture maintenance, storage.
