Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation Tanzania, in partnership with The Global TB Program at Baylor College of Medicine Houston, is seeking to hire a Data Quality Assurance Officer (DQAO) for a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) funded project. This CDC project, Closing - TB GAPS - for people living with HIV: TB Guidance for Adaptable Patient Centered Service (TB GAPS), is a five-year global research project that will focus on finding and preventing tuberculosis, while simultaneously determining the most cost-effective prevention strategy and promoting best practices to sustain the impact of our work.
Position Summary
Perform different laboratory duties as per study protocol, including phlebotomy and specimen processing in compliance with current laboratory professional standards of the Government of Tanzania, Ministry of Health guidelines in a safe workplace and quality assurance.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform QA/QC, internal –external QC and PT procedures routinely for all test methods as per the laboratory S.O.P.
- Review and implement capacity building plan (through training, mentorship, support supervision and implement re tooling provision) sites in line with Ministry of Health (MOH) Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP) and Baylor Tanzania standard operating procedures.
- Review and implement safety procedures to maintain healthy and safety aspects and workplace needs routinely in line with internationally acceptable laboratory safety standards.
- Perform specimen collection from Baylor clients, referral of specimens and reception of referred specimens then conduct verification and documentation/ accessioning of these specimens in line with GLCP.
- Conduct periodic maintenance procedures for laboratory equipment/machines as per the related service schedule and as well routinely monitor equipment and environmental temperatures in line with GLCP.
- Carry study-related laboratory activities including documentation, plasma processing and trail shipments as per the study protocol and manual of operation in line with GCLP.
- Carry out Biochemical, Hematological, Immunological and parasitology tests in line with Baylor laboratory SOPs and GCLP.
- Conduct periodic Tb study lab forecasts of lab reagents and supplies, make monthly requisitions for the required inventory, and manage the Tb study lab store and distribute lab reagents and supplies to lab section users in line with Baylor Lab reagents and supplies SOP and Baylor store procedures.
- Carry out laboratory-related research and present researched findings/cases in CMEs, Case conferences, and other medical-related fora in line with Baylor Tanzania and MOH research guidelines.
- Assist with the preparation of study reports and scientific publications.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications / Skills
- At least a diploma in a laboratory or a related course with 3 years of laboratory work experience.
- Have Key personal competencies in customer care principles, Team, Focused and observant, analytical skills, networking and communication skills, documentation and reporting, presentation and training skills, and proficient use of automated laboratory instrumentation.
- Should have knowledge in laboratory CQI.
