Position: Legal Officer

Reporting to: Head of Risk and Compliance

Job Role:

To oversee all the legal aspects of VET business ensuring that all departments and branches are strictly following law guidelines giving appropriate legal advice to management about relevant issues

Main Duties

• Give accurate counsel to Management and branches in a variety of legal issues in a timely manner
• Collaborate with Head of Risk to devise efficient defense strategies on partner disputes or court cases
• Support Head of Risk in specifying internal governance policies, develop legal tracking log and regularly monitor compliance
• Research on market developments, evaluate different risk factors impacting VFT business products and advise management.
• Maintain current knowledge of changes in legislation. Apply effective risk management techniques and offer proactive advice on possible legal issues involved.
• Support management in negotiating MOU contracts with external business partners providing clarification on required legal language or specifications to management
• Manage relations with regulators, police, courts, public authorities, administrators etc creating relations of trust
• Own all bank litigations and coordinate the activities of external lawyers on outsourced legal cases. Ensure timely closure of exposures involved.
• Manage external debt collectors on hard core and written off loans and ensure timely collection in excess of targets given
• Draft and solidify agreements, contracts and other legal documents to ensure the company’s full legal rights are always prelected
• Perfect loan documentation relating to high value loans appropriately especially on SME and Asset Finance loans

Education & Special Personal Abilities

• University degree in Law
• Graduate from Law School of Tanzania
• Proficient with Microsoft applications.
• Three years working experience as an Advocate is an added advantage Kcnuircd Soft Skills
• Excellent character and unquestionable integrity.
• Determined personality with initiative, perseverance and the ability
• Capability and willingness to take responsibility and highly developed sense of reliability and correctness.

• Networking, negotiating, and problem solving skills
• Good trainer, facilitator, mentor and coach.
