This position is intended for a recent graduate or early career professional looking to expand their experience within the nonprofit sector. Previous experience may consist of personal blogging or social media work, although we do expect some prior nonprofit involvement, whether volunteer or professional. It has the potential to lead to a long-term position with a full salary for the right person.
Key Responsibilities:
Communications and Sponsorship (33%)
- Prepare content and assist the Sr. Development Coordinator in producing all communications including the monthly children’s village letter, quarterly newsletter, press releases, blogs content, etc
- Work with relevant staff in ensuring there is sufficient photographic/video coverage of TST programs and events, including encouraging local staff to develop their skills
- Assist development team with post visitor and volunteer communication and stewardship
- Write blog posts sharing stories of TST, our families, and your experience as a fellow
- With the development team, create pitches for articles + press releases
- Editing, supporting and proofreading internal and external communications, including reports, and particularly sponsorship updates, using material and information collected by supporting team members.
Volunteer Recruitment (33%)
- Create and manage strategy for reaching new potential volunteer and visitor prospects
- Manage all advertisement platforms used for volunteers, interns, and visitors, finding new and creative ways to publicize our Cultural and Skills Exchange
- Assist in copy editing and website content
- Assist in early communications with potential volunteers and visitors, before handing over to local team members.
Social Media (33%)
- Manage and take primary responsibility for social media channels in collaboration with sponsorship coordinator
- Engage with current and potential supporters on all social media platforms
- Publicize TST’s programs and projects by engaging with online communities
- Ensure that the sponsor Facebook group is regularly updated with photos, min. post 3x week
- Develop and implement creative and effective storytelling strategies that help generate additional sponsors and donors
- Research and recommend platforms for storytelling and innovative new communication techniques
Required Qualifications:
- Native English speaker, or equivalent level of written and spoken fluency
- Extensive experience on social media, including personal or professional platforms
- Computer literacy in MS Office and Google Drive; experience with WordPress a plus
Desired Qualifications:
- Preferred Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or relevant field; or equivalent work experience in the field of marketing
- Experience working with children
- Proficiency in Swahili is preferred but willingness to learn is essential!
