Role Purpose

Airtel Tanzania PLC is looking for a suitable candidate for the Merchant Pay Manager. Responsible for building and enhancing the Formal Merchant, Micro merchant and online merchant ecosystem through Recruitment, retention, and activation of merchants. Such merchants include Restaurants, Bars, Hotels, Petrol, Supermarkets, National Chains.

Responsible for the customer experience for merchant payments either on APP or USSD and QR

Responsible for growing transaction volume and value on merchant business through designing and implementing customer and merchant activations and campaigns

Develop strong commercial analytics, competitor awareness and trends monitoring to ensure timely business decisions are taken.

 

Key Responsibilities ;

1. Growth of Active merchant base;

  • Define active merchant performance norms and targets, ensure achievement of set performance targets.
  • Continuously grow Active merchant base in all segments formal and micro merchants through Merchant acquisition, Branding and training
  • Define merchant segments and manage recruitment in each segment
  • Ensure design and placement of relevant trade branding materials at each merchant location
  • Ensure product enhancements and product development for the merchant business in line with business market needs, and be responsible for all merchant integrations

 

2Drive commercial results ;

  • Ensure delivery of all financial targets including revenue and transaction value
  • Grow transaction value and revenue for both on net and of net merchant payments.
  • Design, plan and execute effective customer and merchant campaigns to drive utilization.
  • Develop new products and services for merchants to ensure Airtel merchant is best in class solution for merchants, these will include merchant loans, merchant pay to merchants, merchants sale Airtime and other Airtel services.
  • Constantly check competitive positioning and pricing, analyses Airtel mark to market together with Airtel Business sales, marketing, and product development teams.
  • Analyze market trends, technology trends in merchant payments and advise management .

 

3. Develop a product strategy for the Airtel merchant payments ;

  • Define suitable merchant payments use cases for merchants and customers.
  • Ensure product design and customization to meet specific merchant needs and ensure Airtel merchant payments is best in class
  • Provide market feedback to Airtel leadership regarding competitive offerings, prospect needs and generate product development ideas.
  • Work with the Group and Tanzania teams and leadership to develop the relevant path to launch and scale (products & service, distribution, business processes, contracts, compliance).
  • Liase with the technical team to manage all merchant product enhancements .

 

4. Team and stakeholder engagement;

  • Work closely with Supply Chain Management to Prospect, Identify and acquire potential vendors, platform & service providers as strategic Airtel Money partners.
  • Work out joint go-to-market plans and set out clear KPIs for the identified suppliers while monitoring and evaluating performance
  • Manage an outsourced channel of business partners in order to expand penetration of our Airtel Money services including developing the sales and commission models used to incentivize and remunerate these partners.
  • Develop a partners’ strategy and engagement model for Airtel Money
  • Maintain current knowledge of technologies, products, services, methods and applications and implement new approaches and practices as required through partners

 

Qualifications and Experience;

  • Bachelor’s in marketing, Finance, Business, Sales, Commerce or Administration or Equivalent
  • Master’s in Business Administration would be a preferred additional qualification.
  • CIM qualification is an added advantage
  • Professional qualification: PRINCE 2 or PMP Certification
  • 4-7 years’ relevant experience in a management role within an Enterprise Sales environment in Financial Services having been exposed to all disciplines.
  • Mobile Money product experience preferred
