JOB TITLE:                            Nursing Officer

 

REPORTING:                       Doctor in Charge of the health facility

 

WORKING HOURS:         40 hours per week (8 hours per day)

 

SALARY:                               Gross salary TZS 400,000 per month

 

TYPE OF CONTRACT:       Contract will end on 31st March, 2021

 

JOB PURPOSE:                   To conduct screening of babies and infants for sensory impairments.

 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Sensory Screening

  • Perform sensory screening (hearing and vision screening) using specialist equipment provided at the Screening and Early Intervention unit.
  • Conduct risk factor screening questionnaire, if and when required.
  • Provide accurate, detailed and timely information from the screening results to the Occupational Therapists which can provide a basis of decision making for referrals and enrolment in the Early Intervention programme.
  • Advise on gaps in specialist equipment to help babies and infants with deafblindness and sensory-impairments with daily activities.
  • Liaise with Occupational Therapists and parents/guardians on the development of the baby or infant.
  • Take reasonable care of all the equipment that is made available for the screening process.
  • Timely ordering of supplies and working tools for the Screening and Early Intervention unit.
  • Apply the installed integrated Screening and Early Intervention management information systems in all activities and reporting.

 

Awareness Raising

  • Participate in community sensitisation and awareness raising, including health talks within the facility and in the community, whenever required.

 

Other relevant duties

  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
  • Adhere to professional code of conducts and ethics.
  • Report immediately to the Project Officer at Sense International Tanzania, any challenge or dispute that may significantly affect the process of screening or the image of Sense International Tanzania as a whole.
  • Adhere to the policies of Sense International Tanzania, including the children and vulnerable adults safeguarding policy.

 

 

PERSON SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:

 

Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Nursing from a recognised Institution. 
  • Must be registered by the Tanzania Nurses and Midwifery Council.
  • At least 2 years’ experience as a nurse in an active role, especially with babies and infants.
  • Experience in working with people with disabilities, working with people with deafblindness or multi-sensory impairments is an added advantage.

  • Decision-making skills and the ability to organise, prioritise and plan one’s workload;
  • A flexible approach to work;
  • Clinical assessment and report writing skills;
  • Team working skills as you will often liaise with other professionals such as doctors and social workers;
  • Enthusiasm, sensitivity and patience to deal with patients with a range of complex needs;
  • The ability to explain, encourage and build confidence, and develop rapport with your patients;
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Access.
