Positions Available at Geita Gold Mine
Offsider
Position Purpose: To carry out essential tasks that ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the mining activities, under the guidance of your immediate supervisor and trainer.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Adhere to all HS&E policies, procedures, and instructions. This includes the correct utilization of safety devices and protective equipment, prompt reporting of any hazardous situations (that cannot be eliminated or controlled), implementing necessary changes, and immediately reporting any accident or injury.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures as displayed and amended from time to time.
- Exercise reasonable care for your own safety and the safety of others who may be affected by your actions.
- Perform pre-start checks on machinery, ensuring all equipment is inspected and maintained before use.
- Ensure all tools and equipment are serviceable and safe for operation.
- Work diligently to minimize equipment downtime and maximize productivity.
- Conduct standard workplace inspection practices and prepare areas for drilling, charging, and scraping in accordance with mine safety procedures.
- Maintain a high standard of housekeeping.
- Liaise with the underground shift supervisor to ensure all work is conducted in a safe and efficient manner.
- Responsible for the delivery and pick-up of equipment such as tools, explosives, piping, services, and any other items necessary for the smooth operation of the underground mine.
- Responsible for the delivery and pick-up of waste materials from underground workers to designated waste dumps.
- Remove waste items from underground workings to waste dumps.
- Assist Jumbo Operators with bolting and meshing as required.
- Set up headings with bolt and mesh, and assist the service crew whenever possible.
Minimum Requirements:
- Underground mining experience in a hard rock mechanized mine would be advantageous.
- Must have experience with Sandvik Drill Equipment including Jumbo, Solo, and Q-Box.
- Possess a strong background in underground mining operations.
- Ability to operate all types of hand tools effectively.
- Understanding of maintenance procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret maintenance procedures.
- Demonstrate an excellent service and maintenance approach to the job.
- Willingness to learn and gain further experience.
- Maintain a positive attitude towards labor-intensive duties.
- Be a highly motivated self-starter with the ability to work autonomously.
Essential Requirements (General):
- Completion of secondary school education.
- Basic numeracy skills and proficiency in verbal and written English.
