Mbeya Cement Company Limited (Lafarge Tanzania) is a subsidiary of Holcim Group headquartered in Switzerland, with operations in Africa, Europe, Asia and America. Holcim is a leading global company providing innovative and sustainable building and construction solutions.

Lafarge Tanzania is seeking to recruit a highly motivated Optimization Manager to be based at the Mbeya Plant under a permanent employment contract. The position will report to the Plant Manager.

Summary of Roles and Responsibilities:

  1. Define and analyze trends in process and quality operating parameters and deducing remedial actions;
  2. Responsible for industrial products innovation and development: conduct trials and research aimed at optimizing process efficiency and costs related to raw mix and cement recipe design;
  3. Responsible for alternative raw materials and fuels management to achieve industrial decarbonization;
  4. Responsible for raw materials and products inventory management. Lead the physical inventory stock count for raw materials, semi-finished and finished goods, drawing and implementing plans, RCAs for variations and improvement actions;
  5. Responsible for all key operation reports (Daily, Weekly, MPR & MBR). Review the monthly production report from the team, advise as necessary, approve and forward to the management for decision making;
  6. Manage, coach and develop the Team ensuring high engagement, performance and productivity.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical and Process Engineering or Chemistry. A registered engineer with the Engineers’ Registration Board (ERB) and a minimum of five (5) years working experience in a similar role.

 

Candidates with experience in the manufacturing sector will have an added advantage.

Technical Competencies /Additional Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of the Clinker and Cement manufacturing process including raw materials used, Alternative Fuels [AF], plant layout and different operational models per each cement plant workshop;
  • Knowledge of software that aids in designing raw mix, such as Compoptim/Optimix;
  • Knowhow and knowledge of laboratory management;
  • Knowledge of cement standards and their applicability;
  • Understanding of cement applications and how cement ingredients affect the same (applications);
  • Research methods/techniques and experimentation;
  • Budgeting and cost management.
