Position Summary
The Outreach Coordinator at Ebsar Eye Clinic, will play a vital role in implementing community outreach
programs designed to improve access to eye care for underserved populations in both Unguja and Pemba. This
is a highly field-oriented role that requires a proactive and energetic individual who thrives in engaging directly
with communities, organizing high-volume screening camps, and building relationships with stakeholders.
As part of their preparation, the Outreach Coordinator will undergo a 1–2 month training course at Aravind Eye
Care System in Madurai, India, where they will learn proven strategies for community engagement, camp
organization, and sustainable outreach. With the support of Albwardy Investments, the Outreach Coordinator
will focus on promoting Ebsar’s services, fostering trust and participation, and ensuring high-quality care for the
communities of Zanzibar.
Key Responsibilities
Fieldwork and Community Engagement:
• Be actively present in the field to organize and oversee outreach activities, including comprehensive screening
camps and specialty camps such as school screenings, workplace camps, and diabetic retinopathy camps.
• Engage with local community leaders, businesses, schools, mosques, and cooperatives to raise awareness and secure support for Ebsar’s programs.
• Build trust and relationships with stakeholders to foster long-term community participation and partnership.
Marketing and Awareness:
• Design and implement grassroots marketing campaigns to promote Ebsar’s services in Unguja and Pemba,
including the flexible payment model (Free, Pay What You Can, or Full Payment).
• Leverage local media platforms, including radio ads, flyers, posters, and public announcements, to advertise
upcoming camps and raise awareness about eye health.
• Partner with local cultural and religious events to showcase Ebsar’s mission and services, setting up mobile
eye screening booths and informational kiosks.
Organizing and Managing Screening Camps:
• Plan and execute high-volume eye screening camps, ensuring smooth logistics, appropriate staffing, and
proper equipment availability.
• Address any challenges during camp operations to ensure a seamless experience for patients and staff.
• Coordinate transportation of patients referred to the main clinic, ensuring their smooth transition for further
treatment.
Patient Outreach and Education:
• Conduct effective counseling sessions to educate patients on the importance of eye health, available
treatments, and follow-up care.
• Develop strategies to increase patient turnout and inpatient referrals from camps to the clinic.
• Represent Ebsar in community forums, events, and conferences, promoting awareness of eye care services.
Training and Development:
• Attend a 1–2 month training program at Aravind Eye Care System in Madurai, India, to gain hands-on
experience and learn best practices in organizing outreach and improving community engagement.
• Implement insights gained from training to optimize Ebsar’s outreach programs and enhance camp
performance.
Monitoring and Evaluation:
• Track and analyze camp statistics, including attendance, referrals, and patient outcomes, to measure impact
and identify areas for improvement.
• Use data to refine strategies, ensuring continuous improvement in outreach efficiency and patient care.
• Prepare regular reports for clinic management, highlighting progress and recommendations for future
activities.
Operational Collaboration:
• Work closely with the clinic’s operations team to ensure camp patients receive high-quality care, from initial
screening to treatment.
• Support the setup and management of vision centers to extend Ebsar’s reach into underserved communities.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Community Development, Healthcare Management, or a related field.
• Proven experience in community outreach, event coordination, or project management, preferably in a
healthcare setting.
• Strong organizational and logistical planning skills, with a willingness to spend significant time in the field.
• Experience in grassroots marketing and community awareness campaigns is a plus.
• Ability to analyze and use data to improve program outcomes.
• Proficiency in Swahili and familiarity with Tanzanian or broader African cultural practices.
