Job Purpose
To supervise and carry out planned activities of construction, distribution and care and maintenance of water and sanitation facilities in the camps.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Support the identification and mobilisation of local contractors/casual labourers for construction of WATSAN facilities in refugee camps and host communities including; latrines, bathing shelters, buildings slabs & top stands
- Directly supervise and ensure adherence of contractors and skilled/unskilled casual labour to designs and quality standards during construction and maintenance/repair of WATSAN facilities (including pipelines bursts and leakages)
- As and when required, work closely with the Electro-Mechanic Engineer to ensure that repair needs of generators and pumps are addressed in a timely manner to minimise interruptions in water supply across Nduta camp.
- Provide input into the formulation of BoQs and procurement of materials required for construction
- Responsible for issuing and tracking materials supplied to contractors/casual workers during construction and operation/maintenance works
- To support and monitor water production, distribution and quality in the camp on a daily basis
- Maintain accurate records of WATSAN facilities constructed/maintained and ensure that needs are flagged up to line management and addressed in a timely manner
- Maintain records of casual workers and volunteers under your supervision and ensure that these are submitted in a timely manner to your manager for payment
- Train and build capacity of the construction workforce and operators as required
- Contribute to internal and external programme reports as required
- To attend to any activity as may be directed by line manager
Skills & Competencies
- Diploma in Engineering related training with at least 1 year of hands-on experience in construction and/or mechanics
- A good understanding of the Public Health concept, able to work in an integrated manner with the Public Health Promotion team.
- Able to communicate in oral & write in English, working knowledge of local languages of the refugees (Kirundi) and written/oral Kiswahili is an advantage.
- Good communication skills with the ability to interact with a wide range of people
- Ability to work under pressure and to be flexible in work tasks and timeframes
- Sensitivity to the needs and priorities of disadvantaged and other vulnerable groups.
- Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills, willing to support and learn
