The Jane Goodall Institute Tanzania(JGI-TZ) was founded in 1977 by dr. Jane Goodall, The JGI Tanzania with its partners -  USAID and many others make a difference through community-centered conservation and the innovative use of science and technology, we work closely with local communities in Tanzania, inspiring hope through a collective power of individual action. Majority of young people in schools and communities are acquiring the knowledge and skills to become compassionate conservation leaders in their own environment through the Roots & Shoots program.

The Jane Goodall Institute Tanzania(JGI-TZ) is a reputable and rapidly expanding and non-governmental organisation committed to wildlife research, conservation, socioeconomic development and environmental education. JGI Tanzania performs its activities through its four programs which are Gombe-Masito-Ugalla(GMU) Program for Community-Centered Ecosystem Conservation, The Gombe Stream Research Center(GSRC) Program for Wildlife Research and Roots & Shoots(R&S) program for Youths Environmental Education.

JGI Tanzania is currently seeking to recruit suitably qualified and competent Tanzanian to fill the following vacant position:

Job Position: Program Accountant

Work Station: Kigoma Municipality

Main responsibilities will include, but not necessarily be limited to:

- Serving as an active member of the JGI Finance department and in this regard expected to unveil a high level of financial discipline in day landings operations.
- Working closely with the Accountant In-Charge of ensuring all payment request properly processed and funds are timely disbursed in support of approved activities.
- Organising procurement and maintenance of program materials, supplies, and equipment
- Develop and implement program annual procurement plan approval of the Program Director activities as maintenance, procurement or repair services
- Follow up on the activities and monitor advances balance of resource disbursed, verify spending in the viability 14 program and recommendations for changes in the budget line if needed.
- Perform in-depth variance analysis by comparing variance report to the programme activity plan and confer advice where applicable to Accountant In-Charge and Program Director.
- Prepare and submit a periodic project to initial report to the Program Director and Account and In-charge
- Work with the Program Director and Deputy Program Director to provide an oversight on all issues related to staff performance and administration of the program activities
- Provides support on the preparation of annual and quarterly work balance and compare the same with allocated budget to ensure smooth operation of the pro
- Responsible for assets and equipment custodianship and therefore maintaining equipment logbook and conduct annual or special inventory taking, keep record and report on damages and loss of materials, tools and equipment.
- Participate in the annual audit and developed for action plan and ensure the action is implemented.
- Ensure that staff performance plan is in place in prominence appraisal ie conducted and recommend for staff development when necessary
- Manage program logistics by coordinating effective utilization of program vehicles and boats
- Keep records for all important program documents

Minimum required qualifications and experience

- The position requires a bachelor's degree in accountancy and at least 1 year of experience working with NGO in Finance Management and Analysis
- A holder of a CPA will be an advantage.
- Basic knowledge and practice in material management
- Extensive financial expertise.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to interface between JGI staff, local communities, local governments and other partners and decision makers, and any way to provide clear and patient instruction.
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
- Ability to work and support a productive team environment
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
- Fluency in Swahili and English, both verbal and written. This position involves working with a wide range of people within the institution, local communities and local and international partners, including technical and non-technical colleagues.
- Candidate must have the ability to write clear and concise reports
- Ability to take direction and work independently to deliver results
