Project Engineer

The Project Engineer will monitor and control all engineering aspects of the Nyanzaga Gold Project. Reporting to the Construction Manager the primary purpose of this role is to provide engineering expertise to the project team including the management of issues relating to sub-contractors including selection and direction. Management of Safety, Environment, & Community Relations
- Adhere to all company HSSEC policies and procedures
- Ensure all project engineering activities and procedures adhere to the applicable Tanzanian mining regulations.
- Ensure all standards, plans, procedures etc. are conveyed to staff and contractors effectively.
- Actively engage with construction personnel to ensure that all early works for the construction of the mine are understood and relevant permits, risk assessments etc are in place prior to works commencing.
- Monitoring and optimizing safety procedures, production processes, and regulatory compliance.
People Management
- Communicate effectively with all personnel to enable the development of the Nyanzaga Project.
- Demonstrate leadership qualities with strong team building, effective communication and listening skills.
- Training and mentoring of junior members of the EPCM team.
Project Delivery
- Contribute to weekly and monthly Project reports.
- Liaise with clients and agencies, subcontractors, and design teams on various work programs.
- Coordinate with local and nationwide teams for project delivery.
- Participate in team meetings, all staff meetings, and other non-billable planning sessions.
- Work with engineering team on the production of design drawings.
- Evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques and procedures.
- Provide cost estimates and budget projections for technical proposals.
- Assist with/review scope, budget, and schedule of new project tasks.
- Develop and apply advanced engineering solutions to complex problems.
- Conduct field studies and surveys to collect technical data.
- Prepare design reports and construction plans using local and state standards.
- Willingness to travel to construction site locations is expected.
- Conduct feasibility assessments and site inspections.
- Preparing and implementing project plans.
- Researching and providing estimates for projects.
- Reviewing government regulations and ordinances.
- Making recommendations or presenting alternative solutions to problems and identifying challenges.

- Project management duties (e.g. managing budgets, resources, and deadlines; acquiring quotes, etc.).
- Oversee the review and permitting processes for national and local agencies
- Apply technical knowledge in the development of feasibility analyses for project specifications, ensuring that all stakeholder expectations are met
- Manage alignments and profiles, geometrics, drainage, plan development, and construction estimates
- Design and manage both small-scale and large-scale projects with an eye on safety, scheduling, and budget
- Track project progress, compile technical reports, specifications, & calculations for internal/external parties
- Develop and maintain current project databases, and create secondary systems when necessary
- Prepare plans, profiles, details, and specifications for all aspects of roadways, storm drainage, erosion and sediment control, sanitary sewers, water, and utilities
- Manage project documentation, including but not limited to contracts, development plans, construction specifications, design calculations, and schedules
- Compile drainage/detention reports, checklists, other technical reports /documents for agency submittals
- Oversee projects to ensure that organizational standards and safety guidelines are being upheld, and provide research and technical information to relevant management teams and project representatives
- Train and guide managers and operators to ensure that project specifications are being met, and maintain direct communication with clients and other project stakeholders
- Track project budgets by analyzing all related costs, including labor and materials
Qualification/ experience
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in civil engineering
- More than 5 years' experience in mining or construction industry projects.
- Experience with Civil 3D, and general familiarity with all Autodesk software
- Working knowledge of current compliance regulations, with eye on future legal changes
- Project management experience, with emphasis on direct supervision
- Registered with ERB as a Professional civil engineer.
- Valid driver's license
