JOB DESCRIPTION

Seeking a dynamic individual to join HarvestPlus Solutions, Kenya as a Project Officer, located in Tanzania. Responsibilities will be focused on ensuring the timely delivery of the NutriHarvest: Enhancing Nutrition through Biofortification, Underutilized Crops, and Poultry project, in Tanzania.

The goal of this project is to improve access to healthy diets by increasing production and consumption of nutrient-rich foods, while contributing to farmers’ resiliency through capacity building. This will be achieved, by (i) Increasing production and consumption of underutilized crops (vitamin A sweet potato) and (ii) Integrating nutrient dense crops into home-grown school feeding programs (Iron beans). Project activities will primarily take place in Mbeya and Iringa districts. Existing HarvestPlus projects will be leveraged to enhance project delivery, where possible.

 

Ideal candidates possess strong project management experience, knowledge of agricultural extension services, business acumen, business advisory expertise, excellent communication (written and spoken) skills in both Kiswahili and English, and a commitment to program effectiveness and growth.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Delivery

  • Support the development and ongoing management of the project work plan and budgets, highlighting the need for course correction as needed to ensure the project is implemented to the very highest standards
  • Ensure timely and effective delivery of project activities as agreed with the Program Lead and as defined in the project work plan. Activities under the responsibility of this role will include, but not be limited to:
  • (i) overseeing the design and implementation of farmer training modules
  • (ii) supporting the development and management of a revolving fund to support improved seed access for farmers
  • (iii) supporting linkages between stakeholders working across crop value chains, including seed companies, farmer cooperatives and their members, aggregators, processors and buyers (including schools), and
  • (iv) supporting the development and implementation of nutrition education campaigns
  • Support the development of timely and high-quality project reports, ensuring that impact is being appropriately communicated and learnings are being shared
  • Support stakeholder engagement by organizing meetings, workshops and other fora
  • Support donor communications through in-person meetings and / or by providing inputs to the development of presentations.
  • Support the development of project communications materials, including but not limited to project briefs, content such as blog posts or success stories for social media and / or the HPS website etc.
  • Support monitoring and evaluation efforts ensuring the full extent of project impact is being captured
  • Stay updated on emerging trends to enhance program effectiveness.

 

Other

  • Utilize networking opportunities to expand the organization’s reach and identify potential collaboration opportunities, beyond the NutriHarvest project
  • Represent HPS at conferences and events
  • Other duties as assigned by your supervisor

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor’s degree in agriculture, Food science and technology, Nutrition, Business Management or a related field, from a reputable University.
  • Project Management qualifications strongly preferred
  • A minimum of five years relevant work experience, including the implementation of donor funded agricultural development projects
  • Demonstrated expertise and experience implementing routine monitoring systems designed to track both output and outcome level indicators
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Kiswahili and English
  • Ability and willingness to travel
  • Essential personal qualities of integrity, responsiveness, and decisiveness.

Appointment:

This is a full-time position on a 24-month fixed term contract position.
