UNOPS Hub in Nairobi, Kenya implements projects on behalf of UN agencies and bilateral support, electoral support, health, private sector development, water, and local area development). The functional objective of UNOPS Hub in Nairobi is to deliver its projects in an donors and in close coordination with the Government and authorities and multiple NGOs and civil society organizations in a variety of sectors and areas (incl. human rights, constitutional efficient and effective manner and in line with the principles, rules and regulations of UNOPS, so as to achieve the outcomes sought by the clients.

Tanzania's Country Office has been implementing donor-funded projects. Currently, the Tanzania office is executing two ongoing infrastructure projects funded by the KOICA. One of the projects is constructing ten secondary school laboratories in Zanzibar, and the other involves the construction/rehabilitation of three agro-processing centers in Dar Es Salaam, Morogoro & Zanzibar. The office of the Tanzania KEMCO locates in Dar Es Salaam at the UN Common Office building in Masaki. and a suboffice at the UN Building in Zanzibar. The intern will be based in the Dea Es Salaam office Currently, the Tanzania team and Project Development Unit are pursuing additional project opportunities, which the Intern will also support. The incumbent is responsible to abide by security policies, administrative instructions, plans and procedures of the UN Security Management System and that of UNOPS.

 S/he will be supporting the projects & the office in the following areas: (1) reporting and documents control, (2) UNOPS and Project Visibility, (3) new business opportunities, and (4) participation in relevant UN committees.

Functional Responsibilities

  • Keep abreast of all developments in UNOPS Tanzania to prepare appropriate reports, briefings and background notes.

  • Support the provision of quality assurance, including data verification, on all reports and information products produced by the projects.

  • Establish a reporting schedule and ensure the timely submission of internal and external reports as identified.

  • Provide inputs to the Gender Action Plan, work with PM & field engineers to integrate the plan in project activities and adhere to it

  • Act as a focal point for collection, analysis and dissemination of data/information relevant to verification, monitoring and inspection activities in coordination with the project team.

  • Support in developing and maintaining the filing system to achieve maximum clarity and efficiency in information access and use among all eligible stakeholders.

  • Draft briefing notes, talking points and other correspondence related to the project and meetings held

  • Assure proper visibility of projects in the media through print and electronic publications, video and other means of communication to enhance UNOPS and KOICA public profile and effectively communicate project achievements.

  • Lead the preparation of impact stories and best M&E practices for inclusion in internal and external communication products.

  • May be askedt to represent UNOPS at different UN meetings at country level (e.g., UNCG communication group meetings, etc.).

  • Participate in different stages of UNSDCF formulation processes to increase UNOPS visibility and ensure UNOPS projects are captured. 

  • Support the PM in looking out for new business opportunities (e.g., climate change) in Tanzania.

  • Support the PDO in preparing documents for new business opportunities

  • Help identify and develop opportunities for further engagement with KOICA in Tanzania and other countries covered under KEMC (15 counties in East and Southern Africa).

  • Provide updates to the UNCG for monthly reports.

  • Collaborate at the country level with UN INFO & work diligently towards UNOPS profile.

  • Performs other related duties as required from Project Manager.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education:
  • Must be enrolled or have completed a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Project Management, International Studies, Business Administration, Information Technology, Management, or related fields or have graduated from such studies within three (3) years prior to the applications date of the internship.
  • Prince 2 (foundation) or similar project management certification an asset.
Experience:

  • Experience working in a multi-sector project environment office will be an added advantage;
  • Internship-related experiences not required, but previous working experience would be an asset;
  • Experience in Project information control, Coordination with project stakeholders and other UN agencies is desired;

Languages:
  • Full working knowledge of English is required.

  • Knowledge of a second UN or regional working language is an asset.
