Research Assistants - Short-term Assignment
Background: At Real Transformation Initiative, Tanzania (RTI-TZ), we are committed to improving social, economic, and human health, especially for children, young people, and women. RTI-TZ is implementing a new research project examining the influence of the school environment on youth mental health in Mwanza, Tanzania. This project addresses the limited access to mental health treatment services for children and adolescents. Schools can support mental well-being, but more research is needed to understand what interventions are most effective.
This project is a collaboration between RTI-TZ, the University of North Carolina's Gilling School of Global Public Health, the Tanzania National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR), and three educational districts in Mwanza. We are seeking 30 qualified Research Assistants.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Master study interview guides, survey questionnaires, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Master and demonstrate practical interviewing skills.
- Conduct and document informed consent to ensure voluntary participation.
- Conduct in-person audio-recorded interviews with adults and youths using tablets.
- Maintain respect and confidentiality during interviews.
- Upload survey data daily and report any issues to the Study Coordinator.
- Transcribe and translate audio recordings of in-depth interviews.
- Act responsibly and respectfully towards participants and demonstrate integrity.
- Perform other miscellaneous study-related duties as required.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum degree in social sciences, health sciences, statistics, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience collecting qualitative and quantitative data.
- Proficiency in conducting surveys on tablets using REDCap, ODK Collect, Survey CTO, or similar platforms.
- Fluency in Swahili and English.
- Excellent organizational skills and adherence to procedures.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Friendly disposition and ability to build rapport.
- Availability for the entire training period and data collection phase.
