Overview
Jhpiego seeks a Sr. Immunization Advisor based in Mwanza, Tanzania to provide technical leadership and oversight for Immunization activities for an upcoming five-year U.S. government funded integrated health system technical assistance project aiming to increase the demand for and use of quality integrated RMNCAH services in target regions, particularly by youth and women. Under the leadership of the Technical Director, the position will oversee and ensure technical and methodological soundness of all project immunization activities. In collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, the position will support the design and implementation of Immunization strategies based on scientific evidence in collaboration with consortium partners and HQ based teams. S/he will guide project technical staff across 8-11 mainland regions plus Zanzibar to develop and implement approaches both unified in strategy and tailored to specific district and province needs, to achieve technical goals of the project.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership for planning and implementation of Immunization technical assistance activities at national, regional and local government authority levels.
- Develop strong relationships with EPI teams to support immunization planning and implementation of the Every District/Reaching Every Child (RED/REC) strategy
- Strengthen approaches to address district and region-specific needs, and collaborate with regional technical officers to implement including micro-planning
- Develop and maintain excellent relationships with regional project technical officers, and regional, district, and community stakeholders to ensure effective technical assistance and that all activities conform to high quality standards
- Mentor and build capacity of health care workers on Immunization at the health facility and district level
- Work with M&E staff to track data and results related to Immunization service delivery, and utilize to inform adjustments in program implementation
- Document successes, lessons learned and challenges in implementation, including documenting and maintaining an inventory of successful Immunization tools and approaches
- Input into reports of project activities and results to the donor, including routine quarterly and annual reports and other reporting as required
- Provide technical leadership to the development of project workplan in close collaboration with MOH and other stakeholders
- Actively participate in relevant technical working groups and professional forums representing the project to advance national priorities
Required Qualifications
- A Medical Degree, and Master of Public Health or related field preferred
- At least 7 years’ experience implementing and/or providing technical assistance of $5M+ per year in donor-funded projects, preferably focused on Immunization
- Demonstrated experience training clinical and community-based healthcare workers on Immunization
- Demonstrated experience providing capacity building assistance at individual and organizational levels
- Experience working and supporting the EPI platform in Tanzania
- Demonstrated experience with a mix of practical technical skills necessary for strengthening integrated child health service delivery at the provincial and district level
- Familiarity with USAID’s administrative, management and reporting procedures and systems
- Proven track record managing a project team composed of several technical experts and fostering team work
- Ability to establish and maintain interpersonal and professional relationships with USAID, MOH counterparts and representatives from other key stakeholders such as NGOs, CSOs, and the private sector
- Expertise in research to practice—identifying and adapting best practices to specific project contexts
- Excellent verbal, written interpersonal and presentation skills in English
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
