Overall Purpose
The Project Manager will be responsible for ensuring that the interventions led by GAIN and by its different partners are coordinated so that overall project milestones and goals are met. S/he will be expected to provide technical support as required.
Responsibilities:
Project Management
- Accountable for the overall Urban Governance for Nutrition project management and timely delivery against the project plan, reporting, and responsibility for technical and financial documentation for all GAIN, donor and government requirements.
- Leads the program design, adaptation, implementation, and monitoring in line with the projects strategic plans
- Plays a catalytic role in the implementation of the Urban Governance for Nutrition project by fostering strong collaboration with partners.
- Closely follow up with project partners responsible for implementing and technical assistance and undertake regular supervision to ensure the smooth running of the project with clear project deliverables and reporting system.
- Ensure timely flow of project-related information between project partners, Program Lead, Country Director and the project supervision and implementation team as is relevant to successful project implementation
- Ensures that project progress is on track and to design, including travel as required and agreed, and implements risk mitigation plans if required.
- Follow up on contract implementation including timely financial and narrative reports, disbursements and monitoring fund utilization in line with the jointly agreed deliverables.
- Responsible for overall reporting of the program progress reports including monthly, quarterly and annual reports for internal GAIN and government requirements.
- Work collaboratively with other projects and project supervision and implementation team members to ensure necessary program planning, budgeting, resource availability and that management activities function smoothly and efficiently.
- Performing other duties as directed by the GAIN Country Director or Urban Governance for Nutrition Program Lead.
Key Organizational Relationships
The Project Manager will report to the Country director and take technical direction from the Urban Governance for Nutrition Program Lead:
- GAIN Tanzania Country Director & Tanzania country team
- GAIN Urban Governance for Nutrition Program
- Programme Services Team, Knowledge Leadership, and Finance project supervision and implementation focal points
- Key partners including government, communities, the private sector, civil society organizations, Donors, Research institutions
Job Requirements
Skills & Attributes
- Excellent project management capabilities
- Experience in community-level project implementation and management
- Willingness to travel
- Analytical, with the ability to effectively liaise with government officials
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills in both English and Swahili
- Proactive with a commitment to quality and accuracy with close attention to detail
- Able to prioritize, multi-task, and work well under pressure
- Reliable and enjoys working in a multi-cultural, cross-functional team with a flexible and adaptable approach to work
- Ability to work without close supervision
Experience
- Minimum 5 years work experience out of which 1 year should have been in project management.
- Experience working with government officials and donors is highly desirable.
- Experience in implementing projects, preferably in partnership with multiple partners.
- Experience in public health and/or nutrition is highly desirable but not essential.
Education
- Professional university degree in the relevant area e.g. public health or nutrition, business or public administration, public policy or related field or equivalent combination of stakeholder engagement and project management work experience.
Language
- Excellent command of written and spoken English and Swahili.
Other Requirements
- Tanzanian citizen preferred.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Pragmatic, dynamic and autonomous person.
