Its Maternity and Newborn Wing serves as a referral center for high-risk and emergency deliveries in the region of Dar es Salaam and the Eastern Zone of Tanzania.

Job Description

The Senior Social Welfare and Counselling Officer at CCBRT hospital is responsible for overseeing social welfare and counselling activities across the organization. This role includes supervising the Social Welfare & Counselling unit staff, developing and ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and quality service, and preparing and presenting monthly, quarterly, and annual unit reports.

The officer is expected to have a deep understanding of CCBRT services and products and the targeted patient categories to advise patients accordingly. Additionally, the Senior Social Welfare & Counselling Officer should ensure adequate implementation of the CCBRT Subsidized policy and scoring tool, provide recommendations for policy review to management as needed, and ensure team members are up-to-date on donor funds available and related criteria to ensure compliance, utilization of funds, and adherence to reporting requirements.

Specific Accountabilities

  • Oversee social welfare and counselling activities at CCBRT.
  • Supervise Social Welfare & Counselling unit staff.
  • Develop and ensure adherence to SOPs and quality service standards.
  • Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
  • Understand CCBRT services and products and advise patients accordingly.
  • Ensure implementation of CCBRT Subsidized policy and scoring tool.
  • Provide recommendations for policy review to management.
  • Ensure compliance with donor fund criteria and reporting requirements.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of available donor funds.

Person Specification

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or Sociology.
  • Experience: Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, including 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Skills:
    • Relevant experience working in hospital settings.
    • Additional relevant courses are an added advantage.
    • Compelling and empathetic nature.
    • Analytical and critical thinking skills.
    • Excellent communication skills in English and Kiswahili.
    • Computer literate.
