Management and Development for Health (MDH) is a non-profit organization in Tanzania contributing to addressing public health priorities. MDH Works with the ministry of health, community development, gender, elderly and children; as well as academic and non-academic institutions to address the problem of tuberculosis, malaria, HIV/AIDS, nutrition, maternal and child health and to undertake initiatives to advance public health research, education, and services for improving the lives of people.

Position: Study Coordinator

Reports to: Study Principal Investigator

The study coordinator will oversee a study titled: Optimizing the efficiency and implementation of cash transfers to improve adherence to antiretroviral therapy in Shinyanga region. The main goal of this study is to examine the effect of cash transfer on treatment adherence and viral load suppression. The study coordinator will work closely with the project team leads, the clinical team and the laboratory team in implementing the study plan; coordinating the training and managing the communications. He/She will produce narratives reports and contributes to financial reports for submission to project authority.  Overseas and managers the rest of the project team at facilities and laboratory and keep spending within the overall budget.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work closely with project administration in implementing the project activities to ensure continuity and consistency across the project.
  • Facilitate the implementation of agreed work plan in close collaboration with the heads of the participating facilities, testing laboratory and other relevant health departments.
  • Organize the training program and oversee the mentoring system established to ensure effective collection and transportation of viral load samples and result feedback and guarantee proper and accurate documentation of viral load sample requisition forms and other tools.
  • Monitor the project budget in collaboration with the finance department at MDH.
  • Monitor the achievement of the objectives and develop appropriate responses and solution according to the needs in collaboration with the M&E Officer.
  • Support and where applicable, lead the development and submission of detailed project reports.
  • Co-ordinate collection, processing, packaging, and transportation of viral load samples from participating facilities to testing laboratory and assist in the implementation of laboratory results and follow-up on abnormal and critical values.
  • Facilitate communication between the project team, participating facilities, and testing laboratory to ensure that project activities are completed and overall objectives are met.
  • Where challenges arise in implementing the project, identify suitable response mechanism in liaison with the relevant parties.
  • Act as the main administrative, logistical and operational coordinator for key project activities.
  • Undertake any other duties commensurate with the main objective of the role as assigned from time to time by the supervisor.

Qualifications and experience

  • Medical degree and training in public health
  • 5 years relevant working experience in the area of clinic/ public health research
  • Good knowledge of the national health system
  • Demonstrated outstanding leadership, strategic thinking, organizational and representational skills.
  • Expertise in research to practice identifying and adopting best practices to specific project contexts
  • Excellent skills in facilitation, team building, and coordination.
  • Excellent verbal,  written, interpersonal and presentation in English
