SUGAR PLANTATION/FARM MANAGER (1 POSITION) – BABATI, MANYARA
The Sugar Plantation/Farm Manager is expected to oversee our plantation/farm daily operations and provide technical guidance on crop varieties, crop nutrition, crop protection (weed control and Pest + Disease control), and irrigation to ensure long-term optimization of yield and cost of production as well as promoting and supporting the embedding of agronomic best practices for the farming team. He/she will guarantee that farming operations remain smooth and efficient by monitoring employees and organizing workflows.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan and supervise the daily operations of the farm by assigning tasks, organizing schedules, and managing farm-based employees to achieve team and company objectives.
- Support the adoption of best practices, frameworks, production standards, and processes for the farm.
- Manage the farm nursery fields, monitor seed quality, and ensure regular disease inspections are carried out as per schedules.
- Monitor and ensure the health and productivity of the farms by addressing issues related to pest and disease management, irrigation, and fertilization.
- Maintain up-to-date records related to the farm's inventory, soil test results, planting and harvesting activities, pest and disease monitoring, water management, and financial records.
- Ensure continuous improvement for the farms by implementing functional best practices and conducting physical inspections.
- Work with optimization and maintenance teams to solve problems and promote cross-functional engagement & teamwork.
- Identify and monitor Key Performance Indicators to track performance and flag any issues.
- Manage a team of at least 100 laborers and 5 subordinates, teach them the best farming procedures, safely using modern equipment, and provide technical and process guidance to them.
- Prepare reports for senior management and provide recommendations for improvements to plantation management practices.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree/Diploma in Agriculture, Agronomy, Irrigation Engineering, or related qualifications.
- 3+ years post experience in a similar position.
- Strong Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Proficiency in using scientific tools and software for data analysis.
